Jack good to see you will make it. I was not sure if robert got in last I spoke with him, should be a good year,

the motel 6 booked up really early, would actually perfer to be there as it was very easy to get in and out of the hotel room, but sometimes changes is good to, maybe the next hotel will be really nice....

Default Clutch behavior

I hope someone can help me understand proper clutch adjustment and expected behavior. I have read the FAQ and everything on proper clutch adjustment but it doesn't seem to behave right.

When the clutch is cold it wont engage at all or just slightly. As it gets hot it starts working better. After about 3 minutes of hard clutch use it finally seems to be grippy enough or somethings so hard hitting that the car may try to spin out.

I have taken the clutch apart several times and re shimmed. I am currently about .5mm play. The only thing that gets the car to move at all is loosening the spring nut so it can engage earlier.

The initail slipping and such wouldn't be too bad on a large track but my local track is very small with many tight turns that have me on and off the throttle continuously.

I am a newbie to on-road nitro but have lots of off road experience. Is the centax 3 clutch supposed to act like is described? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

From your description, you are absolutely no newbie to me.
That is 1st issue when this car came out.

Try to change to this part and see what happen:
1. SER-802509 Centax-3 clutch shoe yellow
2. SER-909518 Centax II coilspring 1.8

Start with .8mm end play, good luck !

Thanks GoldFinger!

What is the difference between the yellow clutch shoe and the stock one? Is the spring softer than stock? It says centax II but I take it that it will work in the centax III.

Black/stock is heats up quickly and change the clutch behaviour but very usefull when you running on extremely low tracktion track.
Spring is harder, you need it to compete on tight and technical track.

I'll be disappointed to not miss any sleep from the racket!
The new hotel is Ralphs idea, but the pics look great and the price was good.

I'll bet that Mark has this in his bible: Initial D and I discussed the modification of the shoes which allows them to float freely and they reliably engage and after a year, am running without problems. Initial D posted some grat pics with directions: worth the trouble to find!
