I'm with you as to this day the TA03 series of cars are still my favorite out of any type of racing I have done. I still have my TA03R-S TRF version that I won't sell. Have not ran it for years but still not for sale.

What is the biggest pinion 64dp that I can put in the car. And what is the final gear ration then.

I cant remember what the biggest pinion is but im sure with a bit of grinding you can get a 37 to fit,the main thing the ff03 has over the 03 is the weight of the drive train the ball diff is 29grm and the counter shaft is 17grm,so what i did was get a m03 yeah racing spool that is 17grm and a toby craft counter shaft that is 7grm and some aluminium cvds, all up the stock drive train is 66grm i got it down to 30grm.I dont know what the ff03 is but it cant be much lighter

i have heard somebody managing to install his pinion so that it drove the 'wrong' part of the spurgear... that would cutout some of the transmission's overall reduction!!

Hi all I have a 03pro that I want to make into a R,I know I need the B&E parts but it looks like you need a spacer under the front of the rear gear box that isnt on the B&E parts,I know it will fit the tub chassis but I have the FRP any help ? Thanks

If I put the 37t (0.4dp) or 36t in my DAVID JUN car, what is the final gear ratio then.
Sorry dont have the manuel yet.

Hi the internal ratio is 2.68, the spur is 63, with a 37p you will have 4.56, 36p 4.69 or 38p,4.44

I have a 3rd gen tamiya TA03F. im looking at converting it to brushless and upgrading some body components. Are all TA03 parts interchangeable between the different lines within that series like the R and MR?

how do you mean "3rd gen" and what is "MR" ?

afaik there's only 2 variants x 2 flavours

TA03F = front motor, TA03R = rear motor

modular "motor" gearcase is the same both ways

R & F have their own unique dummy (no motor) gearcases,
different tubs that change battery location.

TA03FS & TA03RS = short wheelbase (shorter tub & belt)

Plate chassis (FRP or CF) come in F, R or FS/RS.

Plastics can come in grey or black, same part #s.

When I put in the model number on the tamiya website that what it came back with. It is the front mounted motor with belt driven 4 wheel drive. It still pretty much original other then a different motor installed from about 10 years ago. I really want to get rid of the heat sink and Old school brushed motor with speed control and drop in a brushless motor and ESC. so my real question is that if I were to order parts for the ta03 will it fit or are there certain key things that I should look for when ordering parts for this model. I would hate to order parts that wont fit or are wrong. Im just getting back into rc after a very long hiatus

I converted my TA03F-S to brushless without any modifications. I'm using a Hobbywing EZRUN 35A ESC & 13T motor combo.

ahh ok... front motor = you've got the TA03F

std wheelbase is ~259mm (axle to axle) and if its a lot shorter than that
then you've got the TA03FS like pictured immediately above


Before you do anything, check that your car has full Ball Bearings.
Every moving part in the transmission has to be supported by BBs,
it needs various # of size 1150, 1510, 1260, 850 & 730.
It would be best to buy a BB kit suited for TA03... F or R doesn't matter.

TA03 has beefy drivetrain which survives any "reasonable" brushless fine.
EZRUN 13T like above is barely more powerful than a Sporttuned brushed;
you could even go EZRUN 9T... note EZRUN are smaller than std motors.
With a std-size motor maybe don't go lower than say 8.5-10.5T.

Best change the pinion to a steel aftermarket unit,
stock tamiya aluminium is too soft & wears out fast.
Once worn it'll damage the other gear too.


With TA03 parts, all parts (except for the F or R-specific bits obviously)
will fit all cars but there's not many hopups that make worthwhile difference.

Std CVA plastic oil shocks work well when built right,
Tamiya TRF alloy shocks are the ultimate if you want an upgrade.

Universal driveshaft is worthwhile, these are same as TA02 front.

Best 03F hopup is probably the "koala nose" bumper shown above.
This takes some of the impact, if the 'blade' on the motor case takes
the full brunt then the motor can shift forwards & ruin gearmesh.
