Default I will take the 415

TA-05 is still a current chassis. TRF415 is officially replaced by TRF416. Having said that, TRF415 is a more tunable and race bred car. Some of the parts between the 2 are interchangeable especially if the TA-05 is hopped up like TRF shocks and LW reversible suspension arms. TA-05 is a heavier car, usually over the limit when all set up. It is a tub chassis unless it is the MS. And need a lot of hop-up to make it lightweight.

If you want a proper racer, go for the TRF415.

Which would you go with???

The car will be running mainly 13.5, primarily on asphalt, but maybe on carpet too in the near future. I'm not too familiar with the Tamiya touring cars yet, so any input is much appreciated. My main concerns are durability and parts availability/cost, as I still consider myself a bit of a novice when it comes to TC. (However, I've been in the hobby for a long time now, so wrenching on the cars isn't a problem...it's the driving part that I'm still getting the hang of. )

BTW, I'm also considering the Cyclone or Cyclone S, so if you have any insight as to how those compare, please let me know.

TIA!

My experience is that the 415 can be a tricky bastard to setup, but once you have something tuned into it, it is one of the best cars out there, as its results show in large competitions.

I have both 415 and ta05ms. run them a couple times today again try to get a good compare. I would still say the ta05 is a more forgiven car, I throw it into conner it regains contol quite automatically. the 415 is a sharp turnner, but it requires a lot of attention when exiting the conner otherwise a lot of counter steering would be expected. if you are a good driver who can stick the tires on the ground firmly at all time. 415 is a unbeatable car for accleration and connering. but for the skill I have now, the ta05ms is way faster, smoother and easier speeding through any tracks.

Hey guys.

First of all i have to say at i test that Serpent geardiff in my MRE in carpet and it feel ok to me.

Couple things is better to know..

1.5mm shims are recuired to take off the l/r play. Add shims to the right side of the diff

Change 44mm dogbones (46mm are too long)

That diff comes with 35t pulley so you must to chance front pulley 35t as well

I change middlepulleys 18t so IR is now 1.94

You must change x-ray 007 rear belt and front belt from HB Cyclone (original MRE rear belt was too long and front belt was too tight)

Now you have a diff what is no slippage at all... just add oil and change it to suit it diffent track conditions.

Feel free if ask something..

Very cool thanks for the info.

Only questions I have is what 35T FRONT PULLEY did you use and can you take pictures of your car?

Next i`ll try old Tamiya 415 belts and 16th middlepulleys, so IR is then 2.18

Front belt #51062 and rear #51063 if they fit better.

I`ll tell you later how it goes..

the planettary gear layout seems to be a one way dead lock pattern.

I bet it would handle very straight and frim when you put hard on gas. like the 1/8 gas car's acceleration.

Hey dialed 415 guys, I'm running an MSX, I have a question about how to get more mid corner off power steering, I'm running a spool and I either have to hit the brakes or give it more throttle, which is not ideal enough for the sharper turns, to get it to steer enough, I'm running on asphault, also this is with a Stratus 3.0 body, would a Mazda 6 give me more mid speed steering, thx.

Yes, change bodies. Try the Mazdaspeed 6 with the wing cut down and mounted as far back as possible. Also lowering the inner rear camber link will help too.
