Rubber tires for carpet
What are some of the better high grip rubber tires that will work on a carpet track for oval and road course racing? I am currently using the hpi vintage spec tires and they only want to drift the corners. Any suggestions?

Do you run any traction compound or warm the tires?

Sorex 24 ftw I've always been happy with them.
The cs22 are a little too soft for carpet i've found, as the side walls flex and the back end steps out if you're not careful.
Any good brand of additive should work ok, just make sure you follow any rules about additive if there are any.

Pretty much everything mentioned so far is pretty good.
Sorex 28 do seem the overall best though. Only problem is you have to make sure you don't overheat them during the race. Often I use 32's with a C-Medium insert to avoid this.
Much More Sweep 32's are also worth a look too.

I see that most if not all of these are slicks. Are they better than tires with the tread patterns? Also has anyone tried the new HPI carpet tread tires?

I'd say yeah, considering that the slick tire used in on road racing has to be a decently soft compound, which means that any tread would ware down faster, also, due to the narrow thickness of rubber TC tires, it is beneficial to have the greatest contact patch of rubber on the ground.

HPI does not make a race worthy tire. At least not on carpet anyway. The other downside to hpi is they cost alot more then pre mounts from sorex and takeoff.
All racing tires are slicks, thread patterns are for looks and bashers. And for those looks you loose out on contact patch.
I had the unfortunate experience in the early years of touring car of having to spend lots of money testing out various tires that failed to give grip on carpet. I recall having a few dozen different tires, it was not till take off and sorex hit the sceen that we got proper tires, i tried tamiyas, hpi, proline all kinds. Nothing would work well and last long...
Stick with what racers know, sorex, takoff, jaco

I got a set of Sorex 28's yesterday and picked up HPI molded inserts for them. When I mount them it feels like they have a gap between the tire and insert. Is this normal?
I felt a set of premounts that another guy had and they felt similar.
Any help would be appreciated.
