Default New "US Spec" Team Orion CRF .21

My AB Mods Team driver Brian Dunbar who is also sponsored by Team Orion came by today with the new US Spec CRF .21 engines. They have made some changes on the engine such as sleeve port timing, crank timing, venturi, and a new drilled/lightened cooling head. So I'm going to break them in and do some dyno testing etc. I snapped a few quick pics of the engine, so here is a sneak peak of the new US spec Orion CRF .21 offroad engine!

Looks like a cool engine. Ive googles for about an hour and couldnt find anything on it. So this might be a factory driver engine or a future release in testing? Whats with the exhaust port? Looks like the wall thickness is really thick with some casting flash or is it just the picture?

Looks like they are still just putting CRF cranks in piccos which is good IMHO.

This is the 2009 US Spec CRF .21 Buggy Engine. Basically this years engine. Thats how the exhaust port looks. Its not flash its where they machined it out. Both of them look like that.

The new LRP is using a EVO 2 crankcase which is a totally different case then this engine. The new LRP the JPX and the P7Rs are all made by Picco to answer your question . But beyond popular belief there not all the same... There are different specs on all of them. Don't let anyone tell you different. Small timing changes here and there from engine to engine can make a big difference in power and powerband. Its just like modifying an engine... You can hack one up all you want but the power isn't found by cutting it to pieces so it looks flashy.. its in the timing profile changes of the engine and sometimes where applicable, combustion chamber alterations. I do this for a living, own an X-Dyno for R&D etc. I can tell you from personal experience that in some engines just 1 small timing alteration in the right place to the right degree can make a very significant difference on power and the engines powerband/delivery.

It's supposed to be a 7mm but with a simple set of mics its more around 6.5mm.

You cant see timing changes with the naked eye. It takes precision Micrometers to time an engine accurately. So here is some pics.

Colt, have you ran these engines yet? Any reports on performance and fuel economy?

I have about 3/4 of a gallon through one of them. So far its seems to be a great engine! It tuned in easy and is holding its tune very well. Havent had it on a track to report any kind of run times. But I can say even with the 6.5mm insert the engine has alot of grunt to it! It's not having any trouble pulling the 8T around at all.
