I haven't bought servos for ever. Currently have:

Steering: JR z9000t
Throttle/Brake: JR 8411.......Just died

I want something faster for the steer. Dunno what I want for the T/B. Any suggestions (don't want to spend a million bucks but don't want cheap crap either)?

Go with the Jr 9100t for the throttle. and the Jr 9100s for the steering. Thats what was recomended to me by my tracks top driver. I havent tryed them yet but from what i hear they are the best around. If you dont want to spend alot there is a futaba one that is like 80 bucks, but i would go with the jr.

I( would stay away from the Hitecs and Tower Pro servo's, I have seen to much issues with them.

A good value servo is the ACE DS1015 servo.

What do y'all think of this? I take the JR DZ9000t (320 oz/in @ 6V , .15 sec/60° @ 6V) off the steer and put it on the throttle/brake. Then buy JR something like DS8417 (98 oz/in @ 6V , .08 sec/60° @ 6V) for the steer.

Seems my current steer servo has enough grunt to shift the pyramids so might be better served using it as T/B.

Any others I might consider for higher speed on the steer?

Can anyone tell me how much torque is really required for each servo? i.e. is there a set amount you shouldn't go below?

KO's are one of the most used servo's and they are just 8kg in power.

In the past I did race with budget servo's, a simple 3001 on the throttle and a 9001 on the steer and that did work fine. Going to faster servo's I noticed the better response which improved the handling of the car. However it did prove you do not need that much strength, speed is more important and metal gear on steer is wisefull.

tje new high tech servo specifically the 7955, 5955, 5990 with the titanium gears are so powerful that they have great longivity me and my friends have used them in offroad, buggy and truggy, gt class, and 1/8 onroad. they dont break. in accidents they may bend or break the servo arm but the torque with in the servos will physically break servo arms or bend them if they they are alluminum. they are now in most of my cars. i have never broken a set of there ti gears over a 3 year period. i on and offroad racing. highly recommended.if you use lipos and et a regulator that puts out over 6.5 volts most servos burn up but tuse these with 7 volts no problem and after 3 years still working

Thats what I have on both of my Serpents, and I love them. I've never had a problem with them and I've been running them all year long.
