just received my revo tonite...
its currently 11ish degrees outside so i cannot break it in here.
thinking about doing it in my shop at work.

im just curious.. does all 5 tanks have to be done at once?
or could i do a couple tanks one night and a couple the next and so on?

the manual says it takes 1-2 hours to run 5 tanks and that i should not let the tank get completely empty.
fine for the first tank.. the body is off.
but what about the others? how can i know if i am 'nearly' empty?
how much time does a tank typically take on break in?

sorry for the questions... this is first nitro and i want to do it right.

A tank should last 7-10 min in a revo. The time adds up when you have to let the motor sit and go through the heat cycle. Make sure you do just as the book says and also I would do it all at the same time and also not lean it out right away after break in run it rich for at least 1/2 gal your motor will thank you.

I break all my engines in using the heat cycle it has worked for me very well and my engines run fine. forget the traxxas way, do the heat cycle

If it gets real low you'll feel it start to lean out(more power) I would just run it for 5 minute increments for the first few tanks.

It's also not a bad idea to heat up the motor with a blow dryer for the first few times you run it. It saves strain on the rod......

odd issue...
i noticed during the first tank today that the revo turns quite nicely if turning to the right, but not to the left.
the wheels barely turn to the left.
nothing is catching.i can manually turn the wheels both directions with no problems.
its just the servo is not doing its job right.
cannot seem to figure out whats causing this.
any thoughts?

do nitro engines idle faster once they are warm/hot?
seems like i have the idle adjusted fine once its started.
but after like 4-5min, the idle is making the truck roll forward and i have to hold reverse to keep it still.
is this normal?

perhaps the idle thing is just due to the engine getting broken in.
it says on tank three i may need to adjust the idle.

Most likely yes. once the engine starts coming to life it will need readjusted, idle and perhaps high and low needles depending on outside temp and humidity. rule of thumb, only adjust one at a time, and in small amounts. (hour at a time)

This is probably due to the servo being either mis-aligned (servo not centered when horn was put on) ... or more likely the end points not being set right.
check your radio manual for those adjustments

so im hoping that i did a solid break-in last nite.
i was in my service shop at work. its about 75 yards long.
the first 4 tanks were easy but the last tank was tough.
traxxas says to do a 3sec full throttle then hold it for 2sec
problem is, i run out of space.
if i hold the full 5 sec, i slam into the wall!!
so i did tank 4 and 5 at 3sec full throttle and then stopping.

think im ok?

Yeah, they just want you to progress easily into the RPM's. Once you get it outside just go easy on it for a few more tanks. Keep in mid its still technically breaking in and will be for a while.

for best long term results dont lean your motor out to full power till you have over 1/2 gal. keep it at abut 75-80% you should still have a lot of smoke and some fuel coming out of the pipe for a while, if you are using a temp gun keep it 215-220, then you can lean it out a little more after 1/2 gal or so. when you start leaning it out just make sure you always have good smoke with in the whole power band.
