If you're on a budget and don't have any equipment I'd go with the Associated T4RS. If you want to build i'd recommend the Losi XXXT CR. Old prooven design with revised plastic to survive the harsh 1/8 tracks without much breakage.

He wants smaller than 1/10 scale. Most customizable would easily be the Associated RC18T - thousands of upgrades and options are available. Some people like the Duratrax Vendetta ST as a more capable racer, and there are still plenty of aftermarket items for it too.

www.thetoyz.com is a great place to find all your upgrades for either.

That it is.

But for 5$ more (it's 94.99 at A Main), I would get the 4WD Monster truck with a synthesized radio (6 channels to pick from) and full ball bearings.

EDIT:

I forgot oil filled shocks as well....

Default a smaller than 1/10 scale truck READ

Here is my personal experiance with 1/18 scale and 1/16 scale truck 2wd and 4 wd

Losi miniLST- JUNK dont waste your money dual servo setup is crud radio system is fair and esc toss it in the scrap heap- I own 3 of them..

RC 18T very Nice very upgradeable and box stock team is a good truck I race 2 of these.

IRC vulcan or photon - Now your talking heavy duty -I took a vulcan took the nitro motor out and put in a Peak V2 15T with a 2000mah 7.4V lipo a standard servo and a G-10 tekin esc. it Smokes most 1/10 scale except those running 6t brushless or under.. Picked up IRC Vulcan off ebay for $25 dropped some extra electronics I had in it race with it every week. It is the sh*T .. TnT

Yah you losi diehards will say I dont know what Iam talking about Bull That is my personal experiance and Every LST mini or raminator has had the exact same problem. I run a indoor offroad carpet track about 325' total with 6-15 jumps
