Mailed mine in yesterday, so I'll see what happens. I talked to Hobby Services on the phone describing the problem and they said send it in. It never quit running just became harder to tune and keep going.

Glad to here they took care of you.
Wow! I'm getting mine replaced under warranty. Thanks revo61, I was ready to buy a different engine already but didn't know if I would get to working such few hours now. Hobbies are obviously the first thing to get cut with a tight budget. Now I've definately got the funds to start a new season

3 Gallons... but it was user error in a big way. I have seen them go the distance but they come unstuck from getting too hot very easily. I would reccomend not actually running them out of fuel.
If you can keep the temps down they are really good engines for the money.

I got mine back today. The piston, sleeve, crank and con rod were replaced. I'll see how it goes after break in. I can't think of any other motor with a warranty comparable to this and a company eager to rebuild it. It's kind of funny that their $299 V-spec that's capable of lasting 8 to 10 gallons has no warranty but the lowly $130 VG that lasts 2 to 3 gallons they'll rebuild for 2 years, no questions. Honestly, while it's running it's my favorite motor for my small indoor track but when it gets close to the 3 gallon mark you best have another motor handy.

The piston sleeve is slightly tapered. The top of the sleeve is tighter, getting the sleeve "pinched" returns the pinch at the top of the cylinder between the piston and sleeve. Motors loose their pinch and compression over time.
Broke in my rebuilt VG using the heat cycle method. About 1/3 gallon so far everything's great. The VeeG goes 12+ minutes as hard as I can run it on my track. I'm keeping it under 210 degrees, we'll see how long it lasts.
