I use 4500 30c packs with 12 gauge wire with deans. They weigh 500g.

Thanks for the info as I was wondering why it was smaller than what we can make. Capacity requires bigger cells and so does higher C rate.

I would be very suprised if ROAR goes with a softcased lipo rule for 1/8 scale after promoting hardcased for 2S packs.

Will SMC have a certain connector on the 4S packs or recommend a type? Seems that deans are popular, and then there is that losi style connector.

I use deans but they can be a pain with larger wire than 12 gauge to solder too.

Dean's connectors seem to work fine for most people. The Losi connectors are actually E-Flite connectors, E5's I think they are called. Not sure what the amperage rating is. Anderson Powerpole connectors are nice, with the heavier duty 45 amp connectors, but are a big pain to put together, especially with 10 ga wire.

We will use 10 gauge wire with Deans connectors. At the moment we will release a softcase 4S/5000 as we need to study the hardcase dimensions some more as we don't want to pay for a mold only to find it the pack doesn't fit in or is not what racers want.

Some company needs to come out with a super-sized version of the Deans connector, to handle the crazy amp loads of 1/8th elec. Hint, hint Danny!

The more I think about the more I feel like we will not supply a connector on our pack. Unless everyone wants to use a regular Deans Ultra. I will ask Deans what there connector is rated at.

We could use the Losi EC style connector which seems to be a Bullet style connector which you can't plug backwards.

I know the EC4 connector is only rated at 100 amps continuous. My guess is the EC5 is good for 125 amps continuous as a 5.5mm bullet connector is good for 150 amps, 6mm for 200 amps and 6.5mm for 250 amps. I switched from the Dean's ultra plugs to the 6.5mm bullet connectors and will never go back. Now if Losi had a EC6 connector that would be AWESOME!....LOL

10AWG wire is absolutely necessary on these 1/8th conversions. With 12AWG wire the amp draws under load can get hot enough to melt the solder.

100 amps continous is allot of amps. That means you would only run for 3 minutes max at 100 amps continous.

Maybe it's best not to put a connector and let the racers use there favorite connector.

I'm pretty sure they are continuous ratings but maybe they are maximum amps. I'm not 100% sure though, just some info I got off another battery Mfg site. I'm not sure what connectors most would use but if you did supply the Dean's ultra plugs it would be a bonus for those that use them. For me, I'd just cut them off and solder on the 6.5mm bullets.

I think deans will work fine. I use them and have no problems. As you said Danny that's 100amps for 3 minutes. Were not doing that. I use 350 - 400mah a minute and that's in a Truggy. Buggy are alot more efficient. Were on and off the throttle alot. Maybe full throttle 3 - 7 seconds at a time.

Plus I like the look of a factory soldier job versus mine.

I'm sure once this class grows big enough that we have dozens of cars at a race you'll find that the competitive racer will likely direct solder. You'd be surprised how much extra wire and connectors weigh. If the minimum weight is 7 lbs 0.9 oz's, believe me you'll see guys doing everything possible to hit that weight....LOL

From a marketing perspective, include the Dean's Ultra Plugs.
