For all you ST-RR pilots, can you please tell me why most all of the set-up sheets I've come across show such thick oil #'s like 800-900? I'm not talking about the SAE WT conversion equivalence here, just the sheer fact that they are so much thicker than on other truggys. Also, why heavier oil in the rear instead of the other way around like most other vehicles? I'm really trying to understand the logic behind these set-ups. Thanks!

The ST-RR works really well on heavy oil, I personnally run with 600 front 650 rear,the heavier rear oil damps the rear when on power in a bend, allowing the front to stay flatter. Also stops the rear from squatting on the straight and also because of light weight on rear stops the rear flicking off of small lips .
most think its over damped until its driven ,you may find the current generation of truggys will favour a similar setup, I'm sure that jammin reversed their spring weights when they changed to the X2 due to new weight distribution

it must be something to do with Kyosho shocks because the MP9 seems to have similar traits

You have to remember that is kyosho oil being used in the setups. The kyosho oil is measured differently than losi. 600 weight oil in kyosho may be 40-45 weight losi oil. I run 45 losi in front and 40 losi in rear.

Tbone, I completely understand the difference in how Losi versus Kyosho oils are measured, it just seems (much like PinoyCali's post) that the overall oils being used are heavier for the ST-RRs out there. At 40/45 yours is some of the lighter settings I've come across. Could it be because the overall weight of the ST-RR in more than the others, or is this just an anomaly? On another note, is there any advantage in using 1/2" offset hubs on the ST-RR?

I run 0 offset wheels on the extended truggy hubs. I tried 1/2 offsets and didnt get the steering. I have heard of people running heavy oil in the shocks too but dont really see the point myself. I have also heard of people running heavy oil in the diffs but I dont.
