I dont care if it goes to 6 mins.... IF.... it doesnt drag out the race day even more.
If you have a club race with 12 heats that would add about a hour to the race day. If the track cut down the time between races to compensate then I am all for the 6 min races.
I never complained about how much track time we get... but I do complain about all the time I have to kill waiting to race and going 6 mins will probably just add to it.

This is good news. Somebody pointed out that 1/12 used to be 8 minutes with 1200mah, there's the proof that we've already got all the battery needed.
Lighter weight won't save tires, it'll just mean softer tires that wear the same will be used.
What about going with 7.2v/21.5t BL in 1/12? Still too fast? The only non 7.2v lipo solution currently is a 1s 3.7v battery which isn't even enough for the radio.

My local track started running six minutes for electric 1/10 off road since 2007. I think it's great. More wheel time for my entry fee!

There's a lot of good reading if you search.

There are a lot of people doing a lot of testing with this and dozens of pages written on it in other threads. Mega-condensed version: 7.4V/21.5=way too fast; 7.4V/some tiny motor=works, but PITA; 3.7V/10.5 or 13.5 or other works great so far, tiny lipo rx pack is no big deal, and circuitry on the way from Novak to boost voltage to the rx and eliminate rx pack.

welcome to 2004.

you could just stick to 5 mins quals and just run the extended main. (technically that is, we don't need to get into a discussion about gearing to the nth degree)

The 21.5 with a Lipo seems to be about as fast as 17.5 with Sub-C Cells. I would like to see a hardened case Lipo 2 cell that would work in BMI 1/12 scale chassis. Or a pack that has the cells separated to work on a T-bar car. Just a thought.

I too have been a proponent of NO time increases because of length of day. But, in todays technology of better scoring equipment and bigger drivers stands (and tracks) facilities can handle more in a heat, allowing for longer events. Efficient programs are necessary.... no five to six minutes between heats.
150 entrys at 10 in a heat is an increase of 15 minutes per round, three rounds in the day, 45 minute increase on racing.
I thought the idea was MORE track time for your entry fee? Or, is it how soon can we get out of here?

BTW, when we ran brushed we worried about gearing, with brushless, its not a problem, my motor is the same temp at 5 minutes as it is at 6, geared at a 4.23 with SP13.5 in a Mi3
