You cant change the timing on a stock brushed motor and still have it be legal for stock class. They are fixed at 24 deg. timing. You CAN however run timed brushes, but I do not recommend it as it just makes the comm life very short from running much hotter than normal as all a timed brush is is a half width brush used to advance the contact patch timing between the brush and the comm.

There is no "safe" way to do it. If you have a silver can, you can tweak the brushed forward with a screwdriver through the vent slots. It's hard to do, and results vary. My bro did it with a Tamiya Black motor once and had it SCREAMING around the track. Before it stopped. And started smoking!!
By the way, it's not legal for racing, unless it's a just-for-fun class.
I had another question relating to stock motors. Again, not legal for racing. But, will putting ball bearings in a stock motor make a substantial difference in performance?

You could cut the little timing notch off the endbell that locks it into place.. but they are already at 24degrees... They will just run hotter if advanced more.. you'd be better off just gearing it up.. or if you want a fast 27turn for practice you could put bearings in where the bushings are..

bearings can make a sizeable difference... 19 turn arms in the purple end bell handout motors do the trick also

The bearings will help speed some, but probably help runtime at least as much. I've used this setup for a practice motor.
