My Titan lasted 15 runs on a 7 cell pack before it croaked, I reoiled the bushings after EVERY run and flushed the can with motor spray after every second run. I never ran anything except 18/86 (never tried the 23t pinion as I knew it'd cause issues)

Is mine user error too? Would you suggest I just chuck a 15t pinion in there?

Hmmm - sounds like another user error case.

E-Maxx motors heat up fast in grass and through normal running even on 12 cell or 4s LiPo, that's why we run heatsinks.

sometimes those type of brushes just dont hold up long did you try to call traxxas before you got on here? There customer service is really good and they would probably just send you one!

My guess is the wrong pinion.

I've been running mine now for MONTHS with a 7-cell. The motor heats up (the more voltage, the more heat), but still runs strong and fast.

You might also check your gear mesh. If it's too tight (no matter WHAT gearing is on there) it could fry the motor...to much drag on it. Of course, if this were the case, you'd be able to HEAR the agony too...

Yeah...has nothing to do with battery...it is user (or should I say, gearing) that is the problem.

Well all those heroes who are shouting "user error" can you please tell me what the correct gearing is my Titan lasted 10 runs on 7 cells geared 18/86 (stock gearing) the mesh was fine and I cleaned it and oiled the bushes regularly.

So all these experts what do you suggest 9/86 gearing? Let us users who "abuse their motors" in on this big secret!

I think the best thing to do is make sure you give it a good break in before you start running it hard. I know around here we have been trying different break in methods to try to make sure we get a good life out of them.

One of the popular ones is to run the motor in a cup of cold tap water at 4-5 volts for 40-50 minutes and change the water out every 10 minutes or so as it gets warm. Or just throw a couple ice cubes in there to keep it cool.

The second thing is motor temp. These things don't like a lot of excessive heat. I only race mine so it's 6 minutes at a time for me plus a couple warmup laps. At the end of my race the motor comes off at about 110 degrees. I am consistently in the top 3 in the A-main. Just because your motor is running hot doesn't mean you are over geared. An under geared motor can cause excessive heat build up as well.

The third is current draw on the motor. The brush springs in these motors don't like current spikes. It heats them up and then they lose tension. To help with this and motor temps. Try getting on the throttle smooth and slow rather than just ripping it back. I promise if you learn to drive like this it will make you better and faster. If you get the truck in a stuck situation like up against a pipe wait for the marshal rather than trying to climb over it. Trying to climb over it creates a huge current draw on the motor. In sharp corners try to keep the truck rolling at all times. It takes far less current (and is easier on the motor) to get the truck up to speed from a roll than it does a dead stop.

Now all this said these motors are overall still junk but the above will help. I just had one that the front bushing wore out for some reason after 4 weekends of racing which comes to a total of 20 runs. At the cost of a new motor that is only 1 dollar per run.
