I have used this for years. Get a gallon of WD40 from home depot. put some in a container and soak the tires for about 20 min. Then put in a zip lock overnight. They will get soft and the effects are perminent. Works great...

What a lot of dirt racers do for thier foam tires is they rub them down with GO-JO hand cleaner and put them in a plastic zip-lock bag.

maybe it's a silly question but why would i do that?, if some one can get a softer pair of tires, what's the sense of making a pair of tires softer? i don't ge it, or is there any other benefit from doing it?

DIP THE TIRES IN TURPENTINE AND REMOVE THEN WIPE CLEAN WITH DRY RAG, SOFTENS THEM UP REALLY GOOD, I TRIED THIS WITH 40'S AND IT TURNED THEM INTO 35 36'S EASILY,

When racing I use Simple Green cleaner to soften up my tires or for cleaning them if they glaze over from any kind of traction compound. It works great because not only does it clean the foam but also softens it up.
