Tamiya TB-02

Is it better to get the TB02R or the TB02 with hopups? And what hopups would I have to do to turn a TB02R into a TC4/Pro4 beater?

Get an Evo 4 (they are quite reasonable priced, especially when looking at a TB02 with all the necessary options)

But if I wanted something that could also be run in the streets, wouldn't the TB02 be better due to its tub chassis?

Then I would go for the TB02R and hop it somewhat.

Building a TB-02
I'm getting ready to build my TB-02 this week (unless work gets in the way).
Before I start, are there any pre-building tips from anyone? I bought the aluminum steering and motor mount, the rest will be stock.
Should I de-grease the bearings and re-lube them before I start or isn't that necessary?
Anything else?
Thanks.

The main thing you will want to do is definitely shave down the rear suspension arm holders. In the TB02 manual, there's a part that says "You may shave this part down" or something like that. Definitely do it. You don't want your rear suspension arms to be binding. Mind you, I shaved them down quite a bit and they still binded. But once everything was connected, it was okay.

I pop the shields, put them in motor cleaner then vibrate them with a back massager. I then use sewing machine oil on them and they spin very well.

[QUOTE=Hawk6]Thanks for the replies. Sounds like I'm on the right track.
I'm building this car to be TCS legal. The shaving down of the arms doesn't constitute "lightening the chass" (which is forbidden in GT-2 and GT-3) does it?
In gt2 and gt3 you can not lighten, shave or re-engineer any parts or it will be illegal.

So far I've built the shocks (with 50 weight all around), and the diffs (using the Tamiya diff grease). Hopefully both those decisions were OK (50 wt shock oil, and using the Tamiya diff grease).
I removed the metal seals on the bearings, motor sprayed them and shook them around in a little jar some, then oiled them.
Onto step 5! Is the Tamiya ceramic grease decent for bevel gears? Is it better or worse than silicone grease?
Thanks again.

How does the AE TC4 compare to the TB02 in stock form? What mods would I need to make the TB02 as fast as the TC4?
