Hello everyone looking at doing a little bit of the onroad (road course) not oval. I'm looking at an MTX3 or a serpent 720 just because I have a couple I can pick up at a reasonible price. Just looking for some opinions with everyones experience on which one migh be the best to start out with.

i would go with something more current than a MTX3. parts are being discontinued. if its a choice between these 2 cars, go the 720. but try to get a car that you can get parts for easily.

I would with the 720 also the mtx3 is an old chassis. Look for the best local support

speaking about parts, I would make sure serpent is either opened, or gonna open again before I start investing in their cars....

you can still buy parts for the mtx3 online but if your going to buy new go with something more current

Thanks guys, I would like to hear some more opinions. I was looking at a brand new mtx3 w. mt12 all new w/ options for around 300,00. Or a 3 race old 720 complete accept for motor for 300.00. I hear the xray nt1 is the way to go.

The NT1 is a good car, but so are the Serpent 720, the Kyosho RRR Evo 2, the Team Magic G4RS and the Mugen MTX4R. The Mugen is the oldest model in that list - there may be a new model coming soon, or at least another update. Personally I would limit my choice to one of the models above, and steer clear of older models like the MTX3.

I have an NT1 and have been very happy with it. It is as tough as they come, but on the downside they need to be as the parts are more expensive than other brands. At out local asphalt track the fast guys drive either the NT1, 720 or the MTX4. The Evo 2 is very new and we have yet to see one at our track.

As the MTX4 is the older model, you may find plenty for sale at a good price - it is still a very competitive car especially for a new driver. The 720 is also a good choice however, some drivers question their toughness so it may not be a great choice for a beginner. Before you commit to anything make sure you can get parts easily and at a reasonable price.

I've owned the MTX3, MTX3 Prospec, Kyosho RRR WC, Kyosho RRR EVO and Team Magic G4RS. Several of my buddies have the Xray NT1. I now have the Kyosho RRR EVO 2 and with that said I'd have to say the Kyosho are the most reliable. I'd stay away from the Mugen MTX3 due to limited availability on parts. It's simply outdated. The Xray NT1 is a great car but from what I've seen from the local guys that run that kit it is always stripping gears. Have had my Kyosho RRR Evo 2 for 3 weeks and haven't stripped a gear or broken a single part on the car. I went back to Kyosho after spending the last 6 months trying to run the Team Magic G4RS. Boy was that kit a problem. Was going through 3 to 5 gears every weekend. Anyway, if you are planning to get serious about on road 1/10 gas I would go with something reliable and that your LHS will have parts for. You can find a used Kyosho RRR WC or RRR Evo at a reasonable price and later down the road convert it over to an RRR Evo 2. That's my .02
