9100s and 9000s are in no way overkill for a 1/10 scale buggy/4wd/truck. The speed makes the cars responses instantaneous. As someone who used to run an "adequate" servo for 1/10 (90 oz, 0.15 sec/60) I can tell you going to a 9000s and 9100s made the biggest difference in the handling of the car. You don't NEED either of them but they sure do help.

+1, I have had some bad experiences with hitec too. I have been running the same futaba servos for over 2 years with zero issues. However the Hitec 645 that was rebadged by hobbico has been good for over 6 months. The only problem that I haad with it was the pin that held up the gears coming out, I was mad about that though because I couldn't finish that main. JR also has great servos but they have a better warranty than futaba. The JR 3 year warranty is hard to beat but the servos will hardly ever break. If I were to buy a new servo it would definitely be a JR.
