Default Velineon

I know i asked this before but it is buried in my other thread. Is it worth it to upgrade my stapmede to the velineon system? Or should i just buy a decent brushed motor? its brand new and has the xl5 speed controller. i noticed it says that i can run up to 11.1 volts with the velineon too. i imagine that would be pretty quick.

If money is no object, definitely! I bought a Stampede VXL when they came out last year and it's been a blast. It does handle 11.1 volt lipos and it's insane running them.

Not sure what upgrades you've done to your Stampede, but if it's relatively stock you might consider getting a new VXL 'Pede rather than buying the esc/motor separate. The VXL comes with a lot of nice upgrades, such as 5x11 bearing carriers and bearings (over 5x8 on the XL5), metal transmission gears, and adjustable turnbuckles.

Totally agree w/you. My VXL Pede is Maxamps 3s 5000 11.1 LiPo powered and it goes plenty fast! Insane?..that is an understatement

i personally would say stay away from it. get a better upgrade to a mamba or novak because they have much better performance than the traxxas bl system. some say the esc needs to be upgraded to make some real speed happen.

What type of esc upgrades are you talking about? I'm not aware that there is any.

If I were to just get an esc/motor to put in a Stampede I would probably go with the Mamba for the ability to adjust settings. The VXL is plenty fast however, enough to push the monster truck to 60+mph on lipos.

I am all for good equipment if you are going to race--Sphere, GTB, Speed Passions--but to say that the Velineon needs to be "upgraded" to get speed out of it? What are you talking about? Drop a 3s Lipo with the stock Velneon motor and you at 60+--even with mild gearing. 2s Lipo should net about 40+-how the hell is that not "real speed"?

Without a doubt I would upgrade your Pede to brushless--and the Velineon serves its purpose well. I wouldn't recommend brushed motors to anyone if you are planning on staying in this hobby.

i was planning to buy a vxl traxxas car but i didnt because the people at 2 hobby shops told me that the esc could be replaced to release better excel. and speed. its just what they told me. its a good system for having fun but the esc could be upgraded. id sy run mamba because more run it and it isnt as expencive as a novak.

There is almost no difference between the specs on the velineon and the mamba max, 100 continous and 200 peak. The difference is in the adjustment of the mamba and the bigger motor in the VXL. You can manipulate the punch and curves of the MM to appear to be faster, but in most cases, same motor and gearing, same speed. Therer may be a difference in the resistance of each product, but thats marginal to the top speeds

I am not saying either is better, or better than anything out there. I'm just saying they are closer than most think

I run a MM 7700 powered w/2s 4000 in a Mini Cooper along w/VXL, 5000 3s in the Pede. Both run pretty equal but 1 diff I noticed is you can program the MM where the batt and gearing affect the VXL. Both perform well and get er dun in the mph dept so crazyjr, Miller_Time I agree with both of you. $300 for the truck is still $300. ESC/batt is above the cost so if the VXL runs good w/o Novak, or MM, due to costs, and if you are not going to race the thing, I would suggest go with stock and upgrade batt--only my thoughts. This is in no way taking away from the quality of Novak or MM because both are great products.

Yeah I should have said it, but I have a VXL, MM, and a Novak GTB system. All for different purposes, and all good. The Mamba is good for being adjustable but it does run much hotter than any other system I've used. The Novak GTB I use in racing, it's smooth and runs very cool. The VXL is just simple raw power, I think it has more low end punch than the others, but that's hard to gauge. What I do like about the VXL is that it runs fairly cool if you gear it properly, and is simple to operate.

if mamba gets hot, lower pinion. i have seen those results of vxl though, its a good system but theres better. but i have to say that the vxl isnt bad for the money.

not home, you really don't like traxxas do you? can you please attempt to keep the bashing to a minimum?

to the OP, a velineon would be a fine choice as it was made for that application. While the MM might have more bells and whistles are you really going to use it to its full potenttial bashing (same thing I struggle with). Either way man good luck!

imo.. the vxl is a great set up for the begginer and for the money. but lets be honest the vxl esc is just plan junk. the solder joints come apart on most and there is no adjustablity at all. but on the other hand i can't say enough good things about the motor. it stay nice and cool, has plenty of power and torque and can get a hell of a top speed.

the mamba on the other hand also has its ups and downs. the esc is great. the programming is awesome and can handle more power then the vxl. but on the other hand the motors do run alot hotter then the vxl.

my suggestion would be buy the mamba max esc and then get the vxl motor. this way you get the best of both worlds. it'll cost you little more this way than just buying the vxl set up but still cost a little less than buying the mamba set up. vxl system-$160 mamba system-$220 buying them seperate to make a complete system right around $180-$200.

and always remember you get what you pay for
