Thanks for the answers about the knuckles guys. I like how wide the lower plastic bumper is on the R40. It has to help save a few parts here and there!

I see HPI's USA site is now showing the 'super' chassis. That can only mean that it will not be long before we will see it become availible here in the states.

I am going to have my R40 in about 3 hours, can't wait. I am also going to do a step by step picture build for some friends.

Looks like tower should have the light weight chassis in a few weeks, so hobby stores should be able to get them soon as well

Anyone have any build tips that might help? What oil is everyone running, and what oil does the kit include?

When building the 2 speed be sure that you have everything in the correct facing direction.

Also, make sure thers only a SLIVER of light able to be seen through the upper and lower 2 speed clutch shoes.

There's one tip I can think of.

Step 17 has you building the CVDs and installing them. After you are done, go ahead and put the wheel hex nut on before going on to step 18. This is because the pin holding the axle and dogbone together is captured by the bearing; there's no set screw holding it in place. The problem is, the pin can come out if the axle slides too far out of the bearing during the rest of the build.

Oh yeah watch that centax...

The thrust bearing in the centax clutch can be installed backwards. I know, I did it. It won't break anything and actually will still work backwards, but if you're like me, you want everything right.

In my kit, the thrust bearing and its' two washers were tied together with a thin wire. So when installing the thrust bearing, make sure the washer with the biggest hole goes in first (toward the engine).

That's correct. Else you get a blown thrust bearing no matter how you grease it as the thrust bearing will spin at the same amount of revolution as the engine !

If we told you it would spoil all the fun of playing "find the right screws" wouldn't it??

Some guy in the factory probably has a big laugh each day about that.

Yeah, HPI could have done a better job of bagging the stuff. It was pretty hit or miss trying to find stuff. But the "put everything into seperate bowls" method does help a little. But after building kits from many other manufacturers, I have come to expect the "one bag...one step" type of organization.

Thrust bearing

-I haven't installed my engine yet, so I hadn't messed with the thrust bearing yet. I noticed the thin wire on the thrust bearing, I assumed it was just there to keep everything together in the package. It is supposed to come off when I install the thrust bearing right? Atleast I would think so...

-I didn't even notice that the two washers had two different sized holes. I'll have to go back and take a look at it and see what you guys are talking about.

-Whats best for lubing the thrust bearing? I was going to use Associated 'black grease'........alot of it!

no wire..

The thrust bearing's are different(though you might need caliper to get it right)

black grease is fine..
