Where did you see a link for the 2004 challenge races?
All I saw was information for 2003 challenge.

Goldenboy- I probably wont be going to do the team race at fastlane. Fifty bucks per team is kind of steep. If you are going
make sure you take your tallest gears for the 200+feet straight.
I don't know if ptp or proteus are going.

NCC i saw the pic of your r40 on dougs website, did you buff your sway bar like you did your shock towers, or is that a silver sway bar, and if it is, what makes it different from the stock

Yes, I polished the swaybar as well. That was the

optional gold which is the stiffest. Stock is medium.

As you can see my track is pretty much a high G track

with lots of traction so I went stiffer to settle the rear

end through the high-speed turns. I was also able to

get a hair more steering as well. On a low traction

track I'll go with stock. That picture was taken last year

so I've made a lot of changes since. I'm currently

running the 04 upgrade kit w/ns3 thanks to proteus.

Default Hara's setup

Has anyone tried Atsushi Hara's set up? I was just wondering how it works, before I go out and buy some red springs. I'm looking for a good starting point... and since the Roar 2003 was at my home track, it should work fairly well.

I have run a setup very much like his (not the same) and I really liked it. However it has mucho steering and is quite agressive so you need to be used to these types of setups.

If you go to HPI Japan, you can find all the info there. Use www.worldlingo.com to translate if you need to. Otherwise, if you just want to look at the pics and part numbers it will be right there. Currently, there is only one 2004 spec running in our area. I'll be at Doug's next week. NCC's car is pretty close to the 2004 spec (minus titanium screws and alum shocks). You won't find the kit here in the states. I bought mine while I was in Japan. If you haven't done much to your car get rid of it and just buy the 2004 spec. It's much cheaper to do the whole kit. I paid around $310 ( I think...can't remember but it should be around that range. )

It's only cheaper if you haven't done 90% of the upgrades already

I'm glad that they are packaging a team model, but it would have been nice if they did it initially.

Default camber/toe clips

hey fellow R40 owners: I was wondering if all of you guys use the camber/toe clips that are enclosed with the kit. I think that the clips will start to endent or soften overtime, so with this in mind I was thinking of using aluminum washers instead. Does anyone have any insite as to which or where I can find washers that may work? also I heard that AE springs will work on the R40, But the springs by AE are the same size front to back. So would these springs still work on the R40 since the springs are different sizes?

thanks all -enjoy the R40!!

Yes you are right about the clips they do deform over time. My solution was simply to buy a few extra trees of them and periodically change them. You get a ton per tree.

As for the springs be very careful. I am not saying dont experiment, but the HPI option springs are the right length and spring rates to make the car work nicely. You really need a way to categorise the springs to ensure you have way to keep "in the range".
