You can't go wrong with Sorex 36,32, and 28's. It all depends on the heat of the track!

Asphalt - Sorex 36R, 32R, 28R with Sorex Medium/Firm A/B inserts.
Carpet - Sorex 28R, 24R, 20R with Sorex Medium/Firm A/B inserts. Hpi Red also works good.

After much experimentation running both Electric and Nitro, here are my thoughts.

Sorex's:
Like SMOOTH Asphalt best (slurry coated/sealed), not for concrete. 36R's provide the best grip in the widest temperature range, my prefered (rubber) tire for Nitro on Asphalt.

Take-Off's;
Work good on just about all surfaces. Best all around tire for Concrete. My Tire of choice for Electric. All compounds work in a wide temperature range. Bargan price for assembled sets.

Yokomo's
138G's (S,F,H) work best on ROUGH Asphalt, with the "F" and "H" compounds being best for Nitro. NOT for SMOOTH Asphalt or Concrete.

HPI inserts work well in all the above Tires and have 5 different firmness ratings to choose from, with Red and Green being the most popular.
Yokomo inserts offer slightly more Air-Gap and have 3 types availible.

I use Take-Off 27's for indoor carpet on my TC3. They seem to hook up pretty well and they last a long time. They are also pretty cheep for a set of 4 preglued tires, you can get them from KT Hobbies for 28 dollars or something.

I can get away with using only these two tyre types and inserts at almost amy track can still get great wear on then tires all year round

The 40R wear quicker than the 36R strangley enough!

I use TO 27 premounts on my car indoors on carpet. seem to work good on every surafe i have raced though.

I forgot to mention that the Take-Off tires work great on almost any surface though. But the only thing you might change is the compound if you're outside and it starts to get really hot. Than you might try a 32 or something. But 27 is a pretty good starting point.

hey one question.. i've been looking around and i noticed that some places sell their inserts/rims/rubbers by pair and some sell it by a set - 4 pcs..and some just dont mention the price is for pair or set

i looked at speedtechrc and they didnt mention whether its a pair or a set..

so how would i know how many im buying? geez how do they do business

i wish there was a control tire regulation at my local track. i dont see it fair to see some guys with fat wallet burning a new set of rubber every run. and some even buy at least 10 sets of tires when new stock of tires arrive, completely cleaning up the shelf and leave most of us nothing.

what would you do if you're faced with that kinda situation ?
