Default Brushless Motor and ESC Compatibility

I just bought my son a brushless motor and ESC as a birthday present for his Stampede, but I'm afraid that I may have screwed up and that they may not be compatible.

Here is the motor (Novak Velociti 7.5)and esc (Castle Sidewinder).

The motor is sensored and has wires coming out of it and the ESC does not have anywhere to plug them in at. I'm assuming these wires are for the sensor?

I hope someone can help. He was so excited when he opened it, but I don't want to try it unless I know it will work.

It won't work. Return the ESC and get a Novak or LRP.

Why wont it work?

If you do return it get a Castle Creation or Orion Vortex motor.

cause it a sensored motor and a sensorless esc. Go buy a novak or lrp esc and it will work perfectly. Especially for racing as the sidewinder and mamba are only legal in the mod classes.

Sell the Novak motor and buy a Castle 4600 or 5700 motor.
You will be very happy with the Caslte creations products.

I would even be willing to trade you a new 4600 for your Novak.

PM me if interested.

Actually, it will work. A sensorless and sensored motor are pretty much the same disregarding the sensor bundle and a sensorless speed control won't notice too much difference between them, though some sensorless setups are smoother than others. It is probably still smart to switch the Novak motor for a Castle motor since you will likely cut off the sensor wires of the motor.

as he has a stampede, I am assuming he is not racing at a level where his motor will really matter.

I personally would return the novak motor and go with a 4600 or 5700 motor from castle creations.

As for legality of racing, not sure what class the 7.5R falls into that isnt mod as I believe the spec'd classes right now use 10.5, 13.5, and 17.5 based brushless motors, with 10.5 next year going to mod I believe. So with your current motor he is already in mod designation.

This truck is not for racing. My boy just turned 7 and this Stampede is 2 years old now. I'm going with the brushless setup to make it more challenging and fun for him to drive.

BTW, thanks for the help everyone. I am returning the Novak and am going to buy at Castle 5700.

He'll have fun with the MM 5700 in there, but you may want to start him with a 4600. The 5700 will push that truck in the 37-40mph range, which is a whole lot of speed for a 7yo IMO, especially in a truck with a CG that high.
