I contacted exotek and mikeR told me the EX06 was never tested for small lipo. I bought one of their lipo saddle holders for a theory...

If I get the lipo to stay secure, I am at 1390g with body!

I converted my EX06 to my VTA car for the VTA Nats up here in a few weeks. I had shorty lipo in front and behind it is where I mounted my speedo. I had a longer sensor wire then I needed that has a bit of extra casing around it that I tucked between the battery and the speedo and it held in place fine. Even after a run in with a turn marshals ankle on the straight that flipped me off the track when he was running back after flipping someone else over... If not for that I would have been in the running for 1st in the main. (I took 2nd.) But the shorty was still in the same place.

Sweet. I am planning on using a spare hole to use one of the lipo holders. It will be held by obe screw and servo tape. I'll keep you posted once I get the parts in.

it is a very, very hevy shell (don't know how much exactly by heart,I have to check when I get home)
+ I back with faskoat and rustoleum clear
but I compensate with a very light battery : lrp 2400 only 155gr
I did have to abort the front diffuser, once you hit something it crackes open, to save the body from further cracking I had to cut away along the front bumper
in fact this not the ideal race body but it does handle very smooth on the track, so it's fun to drive.

ifs is setup standard like in the manual. I'm not the very best pilot, more average (so I don't really test around with different suspension settings)
however I did have slightly faster laptimes with this ta06 + heavy shell and 17t engine then with my trf417 with a 12t engine
so for what it's worth : the ifs and heavy shell does not affect my laptimes that much i guess

With shorty lipo and the rhd mod I am at 1377 grams! That is with front and rear alum bulkheads, alum c hubs and alum knuckles. I'm sure if I swap back to plastic I can drop about 25 more grams.

Here is how I fitted a part to secure the shorty lipo.
Buy the exotek lipo holder and dremel up to the first circle(dremel the oval off) and apply double sided tape and one screw into the existing slot and bottom most hole. This may work for either side, but I am not 100% sure.

Has anyone race with this car with a 5.0 turn motor? I raced it yesterday and thought that handling was good due to the layout. The biggest concern i had was the lack of cooling due to the motor placement. How much cooling will the Exotek or other carbon fiber chassis help?

Top picture is the stock tamiya vs exotek. The bottom picture is EagleRacing

You can clearly see the EagleRacing has the most holes -By far- and that is why they need to run a 3mm lower deck. even with all those holes, it is still stiffer than the Exotek. The key is the fan. There are a few threads out there that have tested fans and ironically the Yeah Racing 30mm fan is by far the highest flowing and lightest fan out there. That is what I am running.
