Default tc3 spur/pinion combo

I just started running vta a couple weeks ago with a used tc3 setup. The guys in my class say that a 4.80 fdr is perfect for our track. What's my best option for 48p pinion & spur combo that doesn't require any chassis grinding or cam grinding? Thanks for the help in advance!

48 pitch: 72/37=4.86, 69/36=4.79.

How are the 5000 40c venom packs they any good?

Yes, they're really good, but way overkill for VTA. The 3800s are more than sufficient, and way cheaper.

Because the diameter of the gears really doesn't change with respect to pitch, you will have to grind out the webbing under the pinion gear on the TC3 to arrive at you desired ratio. I know you may not like it, but I have 3 of them and its the only way to get to that ratio.

Yup, regardless of pitch, you're going to be in the same pickle. Some folks switch over to 64 pitch to get finer adjustments between gears to fine tune, but that doesn't solve the space problem, as the TC3 was designed and sold when the first of the brushless systems were being sold, well before their relatively refined state of today. Brushless tolerate a range of gearing that would toast even the most resilient of brushed motors .

As to the 66/34, I don't know, never tried a spur that small in the TC3!

Only the dremel solves the clearance issue! Luckily, not much really needs to be removed. Work slowly, and be sure to take just a LITTLE extra to compensate for a little flex in the chassis.

Thanks for the responses guys! The guy that I bought it from included some 64p stuff but no combination gets me any closer to 4.80 than the 48p parts. Guess I'll head to the lhs and pick up a selection of pinions & spurs and then break out the dremel to get them to fit.

Robinson makes pinions in 70, 66, 60, 55, 52, and even 49T. One of these should get you to 4.8 FDR. To get an approx. 4.2FDR (for 21.5 motors) I usually use 60/35. 60/31 * 2.5 = 4.83 FDR.

In case you decide to tackle the mod I dug this up for you. It's really pretty easy.

Be sure to take a little off that chassis brace as well. Some of the larger pinions will hit it.

I haven't tried them. I do have a friend who has a 5000 30c and it is very good. But no where near as inexpensive as the 3800 which is more than enough battery.

That is what is in my son's VTA car, which he also is able to swap back and forth with his TC and SCT.
