i tried teh 5.4 and almost smoked a CO27 at 285 degrees. I ended up around a 5.7 to get good temps. and that is running 4 cell outdoors/ asphalt

It's a moot point. It looks like 5.72 is as low (numerically) as I can go with the TB-02 I'm running, so that's what it'll be!

I guess Im not that familiar with the TB-02. Why cant you go below that FDR? Is it a spur gear issue, what?

Yeah. It comes with three spurs, and with the smallest one (55T) and the largest pinion it'll fit (25T) you get 5.72. They just give you a chart but it must have an internal ratio of 2.6. You can go in the other direction all the way to 9.91 FDR! It's shaft drive and it won't accept standard spurs, but maybe there are smaller Tamiya ones from other kits or something that are smaller. It looks like the 5.72 will be fine though, right?

I've had my 27t/4cell car geared rather conservitavely at 5.75 and with a smooth driver(not me) it could lap the field twice in a 8 minute race against the 21.5 lipo cars. It didn't have the straight away speed of the lipo cars and it temped at 185 with 135 tracktemps. This weekend I regeared to 5.55 fdr, and it was the fastest car on the track, period. but then we have our lipo fdr set at 4.3. the motor is a 2 year old co27 and it came off at 210 degrees after the 8 minute main with 4600's.

I dont know if you can mod it to take standard spur gears, but I would be looking into that. Are you using that car for anything TCS?

My car is somewhere around 5.73 and Im ok in the infield but I get eaten on the straight. 4/27.

I'm surprised to hear so many people talk about the equivalency of the 27T/4cell to 12.5/Lipo on this post. Here in Colorado no one with a 27T brushed motor has come close to competing with the 21.5 lipo and that's with good drivers behind the wheels of both types of cars. In Fact, one of our tracks is starting to break the VTA class in to two because the 4 cell cars can not competitive with the 21.5/lipo using the 4.2FDR.

I guess the other option in our area would be to raise the FDR value so the 4cell and BL\Lipo are closer in speed. But the 21.5 gains the advantage in cornering with more torque. I personally love the 21.5/lipo, not from just a speed point, but it's so maintenance free. No tuning of motors and equalizing of batteries to deal with. More time spent an chassis setup and driving.

Which for anyone reading this tread that is thinking about VTA. This class has help improve my over all driving for other class dramatically. Having to figure out the proper line to drive in order to carry more speed is the first thing you learn or you'll never win regardless of the power plant being used.

amen bro. Too many people want to start racing and the only class is stock and 13.5 well 13.5 is too fast I'll try 21.5 or 27t. Well that is still TOO fast for the total noob. Love VTA. Its easier to get involved in than say Mini Cooper 'cause you can get touring cars used from the fast guys or bum setups and parts and so on. Its really brought me back to racing now since I can't afford to spend $$ to go fast but I don't mind running decently in VTA!

Currently 45 x 60.

I agree with BK ... his driving has much improved, not only in this class but has transfered to touring as well.

I have 2 X-Ray T-2's one set up with brushed and one with the 21 lipo. I'm a fair to good driver (given the day) and have tuned motors for 20+ years. I can get my co27 to turn fast laps, but the lipo stays fast for the full run, so I end up with better laps using that option. Then there is the time gained by not working on the motor. Cells that I'm using are great, that I got from Power Push for my 1/12 scale cars to run the On Road Nationals in March and are well maintained.

We also run outside at another location and I have won several times with the brushed car, with it being a larger track, however I know BK has won the last two or three races as he has his lipo car beating everyone (I've missed the past weeks) not that based on where other drivers finished, the he would have not beat me as well. FYI he is also running a T-2.

Doug-
Just a note on the wheel list in the rules:

I was going through all of the part numbers looking at wheel options and I can't find a such thing as numbers 3818 or 3819.

Also, I think the list should include #3861, which is the bright chrome version of the 31/6 stock car wheel. The matching 26/0 front is on the list.

I can see how the brush cars can't compete on a track that size(45x60), our track is 70x100 and usually has 2 decent length straights. The torque is hard to over come on a short track. I am using some old(2-3 years) max amps 4400's for the heat races and a newish pack of 4600's for the main, it is in my T2R and just flies.

If its identical to a legal rim in size and shape and holds the legal tires, I dont think Doug would have a problem. But I will wait to hear from him on that, just to make sure. I like the five spoke the best anyway.
