Hi, i need advice from you guys out there. I am looking for a budget touring car that i can have a great time with it. I may wanna compete at a "beginner" level. Currently i am deciding either TA-05 or Cyclone S. 19t or 23t? Is it necessary to beef up the chassis with a 19t motor? Is it true that the Cyclone S doesn't need further strengthening;even with a 19t motor? What will be the gearing ratio for a 19t motor? I would like to hear your opinion on these cars. This is a toss up, Both cars should be strong enough for 19t since they're both tub types. I don't think you can go wrong with either car.

Ive heard the Cyclone S is rather weak in some areas compared to the TA05, but ive never used or seen one to confirm that.

Bang for the buck the Cyclone S is a good car and it fully upgradable to cyclone,the parts are a little cheaper and some times easier to find.The TA05 is a very good car to and is upgradable too but its going to cost you a little more to do it.

A bone stock TA05 can run at just about at any club and can hang with any car, period!

TA05...look at the tamiya worlds in Japan, a guy running a plastic ta05 is ahead of the trf guys....

me and threeo fo me kids run TA05's and they just don't break and are competitive... period... there have been a couple of Cyclone S chassis here but they cracked and broke, and yes, you can upgrade to the full version... it is just not cost effective.

My bone stock TA05 rocks in 13.5 class and I've seen David Jun kick butt in Modified class with the TA05-R version. I heard that the cyclone s is a little brittle.

Being a tub chassis, the TA05 is pretty much set out of the box. Yea, you can buy the LW Carbon chassis and other parts, but they don't make a difference in my opinion. Plus the carbon chassis seems to have a trouble coming out of the mould. A high percentage of them are tweaked. It's inconsistent and seems to be an issue with how it cools.

We run a ton of TA05's at my track--silver can, stock, and 13.5. I personally run two, one silver can, the other 13.5. The only upgrades I would consider really essential over the stock kit are steel CVD's and TRF shocks. The TA05-R comes with those and other "upgrades" for roughly $100 over the stock kit. Probably a good deal.

As for the Cyclone S, we've had one on the shelf for over a year. No takers. Other than that one, I'm not aware of any in our area. I've seen more Yokomos than Cyclones! Nearly inconceivable, really.

I just bought a TA05-IFS and right away when opening the box I could see that this is the bargain race car deal. I bought it primarily to race TCS in the GT3 class.

The car is just smooth on the track. With some more tweaking and tuning I'm pretty sure that it will be as fast as my AE and Schumacher cars were but at nearly half the price.

The best deal is the TA05-R, that comes equipped with most of the tuning parts that would cost almost a couple hundred more.

Thanks. After going through your opinions, I am tilting towards the TA-05.
Just"em I am being offered a TA-04S for US$100. Hence i am thinking of getting both(heehee). Has anyone out there driven the TA-04S? How does it compare to the stock TA-05? I will settle for a Yokomo 19t motor. Most likely a Prolux charger as well. Anyone own a Prolux & a Yokomo motor? How's it? With a 19t motor, is it neccessary to install a high speed servo? I wouldn't bother with the TA04S, its an outdated design. Get the TA05 instead, it drives and handles easier and faster. Just last weekend, some kid in Japan was beating all the pros at The Tamiya Championships with a bone stock TA05. I bought my TA05 kit brand new for $138 and it came with a body, tires and a Mabuchi Motor included. Yokomo motors have a great reputation but if it's old, I wouldn't bother with it. Always invest in the best servo and esc that you can afford.

Don't bother with TA-04, it is old and the battery slot is too small to fit current 4200+ cells. on top of that, parts is hard to find.
