Motor Lathes (Alternative BITS)

Motor Lathes (Alternative BITS)
Does anyone have any idea how to identify the particular bit that was included with a motor lathe?
I have the Hudy lathe, and I think that I may have ruined the diamond bit. Until I'm ready to purchase a new "diamond" bit, I want to get a couple of carbide bits. I've found a local shop that does mail order (Maryland Metrics www.mdmetrics.com) that sells tool bits. While the shop is in the same state, it's not exactly around the corner. The bits are classified as:
E, D, C, BR-L, and AR-L
sizes: #4 (1/4"), #5 (5/16"), #6 (3/8"), #8 (1/2") and #10 (5/8")
The price for the 1/4" are $1.50 each or $3.25 depending on manufacturer.

Geppeto,
The Hudy lathe cuts from right to left and that means you need a AL4 bit because the cutting part (carbide or diamond) must be facing down.
The rule is - if your bit is on the rigth it's AL(eft)
if it's on the left (like the Trinity lathe and a few more it's AR(ight)
The Diamond bits from McMaster are excellent and the PN number you need 8if you buy from them is:
AL-4 - 3316A42 - $51.67 (Diamond)
Carbide:
C2 - AL- 4 - 3367A341 - $3.57
C6 - AL- 4 - 3367A131 - $3.42
Here you have the URL for the carbide bits page:

Geppetto,
I purchased the carbide bit that Antoniop recommened to me ( he told me one was better for our purpose of cutting commes) from McMaster. I purchased five bits for my Hudy Tech Lathe and I am still using the first bit. Plus they are less than $3.50 a piece.
Thanks again antoniop.

and
3316A32
Polycrystalline Diamond-Tipped Tool Bit Ar-4, Right Hand, 1/4" W X 1/4" H X 2" L Shank

Now a question;
Why should I spend the extra dollars on a diamond bit ?
