The tracks in my area do not allow Lipo or Brushless for racing at this time. Well I can run brushless in Open but then I would have to rewire the speed control each race. I have four 6 cell 4200 SMC packs for racing, but I would like to get a few practice packs so I don't need to use my race packs for practice. I have tried to look around for any info on Lipo's but I can't seem to find any info. I have been out of the sport for long enough that I have never dealt with Brushless or Lipos and need some advice before jumping into them. I get the basics (longer run time, lighter weight) but after that my research has stalled. What size pack should I be looking at that will give my truck a similar performance to the 4200's in practice? I don't want it to be so fast in practice that I am not getting a feel for the track in race conditions.

Well, as for pack size this will be similar http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...p?&I=LXLXR6&P= or this http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...p?&I=LXNMF9&P=. but when running lipo's remember the your car or truck will be running a few ounces lighter. So if you use lipo's for practice then race with normal 6cell packs your car will drive different because of that weight difference. As for speed, you won't notice a HUGE difference mabey a little.

I would go for the 4800 pack as well. Are you using it in a stadium truck? The reason I ask is some chassis have a hard time fitting the pack in, but the st's will work fine. I can't confirm on 2wd buggy.

I have a B4 & T4, and the orion 4800 packs fit well in both.

I'm running a XXXT-CR and the battery slot is a little wider then older trucks it won't have any problems fitting. I was planning on adding a little weight to make up for the difference in practice. By the way thanks for the advice!

I also use the SMC 5000 2s pack, which I like very much. It does not have a hard case though. I personally don't think the hard case is essential in 2wd off road because the chassis provides some form of protection.

All the orion lipo's will fit the RB5 and maxamp's will fit up to the 8000mah pack.

you don't need to have cutoff only stop when the pack drop

Since you're only using it for practice, buy a USED one. I picked one up at my track for $20 yesterday. Actually, I have three maxamps 6000s and the other two were $25 each. They're out there, just gotta look.

The Orion Carbons are nice as mentioned from others. I used them for the first time Friday night and lipo in general for the first time and it is very easy to use and my work load and equipment I had where 50% less than normal.

I find after this week that going back to brushed and nimh's will be very difficult for me.

there is very little difference in weight between the racers edge 5000 mah lipo and a normal 6 cell pack.

you get a good 40 minutes or so run time, depending on your motor, and the vehicle will feel the same pretty much at race time.
