Stand up brsuhes are only used in 19t motors designed for Oval, they don't work well in Onroad.

How does laydown endbell limit timing

On all mods you can adjust timing with standup brushes you can go over 50% past comm plates or half the thickness of the brush before collapsing the armature field, on laydown brushes with a mod arm the brush can target 0 degrees easy. You can potentially short arm current too much.

If you take the brushes out you should see if the timing is 0, 2 plates intersecting on one pole and one full plate on the other pole, timing is set anywhere before the split or after the split. Lay down brushes can cause the field to stay on either to long or charge up too quick depending on timing because the laydown brush has more horizontal contact.

Most pre P2K arms are smaller diameter, on P2K arms lay down brushes have little effect.
