Hitech make the servo lead ends and they come with the gold plated pins. All you need to do is cut your servo lead to length then strip back the wire casing then crimp on the new pins, I also solder a little bit of it as well. Then put the three new wires into the new connector lead provided. You can buy these new ends for around $1.25-$2.95 each. http://www.servocity.com/html/servo_...rs___pins.html

I have cut and added length to servo leads by soldering together. As much as 4 or 5 feet. Never had a problem. I would think cut and splice shorter should be no different.(but it would not be as clean looking, which was the whole idea).

Yeah, I could cut, solder and shrink but as was suspected I want to have a cleaner job than that. Plus, the shrink wrapped areas are always stiffer and slightly more difficult to maneuver.
Thanks to the guys above that helped, I ordered the stuff from servocity.

I just ordered their deluxe crimper but haven't tried it yet. Heard good things though.

This is where I got my crimper and Servo City is the place to get connector kits. I ususally order the 12 pack, better price break. Soldering is absolutely the last thing you want to do to shorten leads. The heat from soldering brittles the fine copper wire in servo leads to the point that car vibration will cause the wires to fracture causing a open connection.

only open the case of the servo if it is futaba, hitec and sanwa have the wires connected right nin the hard to get at areas.if you do solder the connections on tin the pins first.(have small amount of solder on the pins befoer the wire touches the pins or use flux on wire

I wrap my servo wires around a pencil, this forms a coil and it looks much cleaner than a tie wrap.
