Default Engine break in

In this month RC Car Action Magazine, had an interesting article about engine break in method by Adam Drake.

I lost my issue and would like to get just the basics of this method, not the whole article.
I remember:
1) Warm up the engine to 160
2) Open 2 turns the high needle then open full throttle until the temp goes down to 120
2a) Close the high needle to warm up to 160 again
3) repeat 4 - 5 times (tanks)
4) take out for spin (2-3 tanks)
5) Take to the track and fine tune

Will any one help me remember if I am missing something?

Thanks in advance
Regards

I think it was along those lines. I was surprised on his temps though. They seemed really low for break in. From what i read and do, the temps are usually low to mid 200's for break in. Can't doubt him though... he obviously knows what he is doing.

I believe the article stated that he likes to let the engine idle with fuel going through it to cool during cool down periods too. Little different than shutting the engine down at BDC.

I broke in a new PSR using this method yesterday after reading the article and talking with Drake at the iHobby Show. I still feel it needs a few more tanks before it's ready for a race tune.

I really have no opinion yet as to how well this technique works until after I race on Sunday.

Sorry, I'm too lazy to type it all out. It's in the magazine.

It's copywritten and that's against the law. Just buy the magazine.

here is a quick synopsis taken from Xtreme Rc car Magazine:

1. set on stand
2. throttle up to 160 wide open throttle (will have to adjust needles to a very rich setting.
3. let the temp come back down to 120 by idling fuel through
4. repeat....see bellow

tank 2 = 170 then idle 120
tank 3 = 180 then to 120
tank 4 = 190 then to 120
final = 200 then to 120

can do this continuously by just adding fuel.

final break in on parking lot for 4-5 tanks

My interpretation is that he is getting these temps at wide open throttle and running very very rich. The first tank it was stated that he goes wot and just adjusts the hsn until he maintains 160. The following tanks are done the same, but you will have to lean it slightly to get the higher temps.
