Geeze I was thinking samething, no need for 2speed.

Wow, all this talk of guys running 9 ports and mod on-road engines in GT cars....
What's keeping ya'll from just moving up to the "F1 of R/C" 1/8 on-road pan car?

Yes and no. The more/larger ports you have the less vacuum you produce at lower rpm. This decreases airflow at lower rpm. The more ports you have the more rpm you have to turn to create the same amount of vacuum.
If you compare the same vacuum numbers between a 9 poet and 5 port the 9 port will be making more power, it just takes more rpm to get there.
I am not advocating that less ports is superior, but they do make power fast than more ports. I have no doubt that a properly clutched/geared 9 port is superior in power to a 5 port.
But on a dyno side by side the 5 port will make power sooner than the 9 port.

If you have to resort to running a $$$ 9 port in a GT car at races, why not just race in the 1/8th scale pan car class with the big boys?

Good discussion, I'm not technical about engines. But I like running both 7 and 9 ports. Both clutched the same. Only difference for me is 9 has better top end. I usually gear down 1tooth on the spur for 7 port to get the same top end.

Northeast we run open GT, so don't ever see using a 5 port. As tracks are big.

I can only speak to my area open GT is only preferred.

You must be misunderstanding my question, because I’m not flaming anyone.
I was just trying to understand why anyone would spend big money on a 9 port on-road race engine, send it to a “engine mod” guy for more tweaking and drop it in a buggy based GT chassis, when awesome 1/8 scale on-road pan cars exist for those engines.
I’m just asking a simple question, in the hopes that some of the “pro & sponsored” guys racing in the GT class will answer.
Why aren’t you “pro & sponsored” guys racing your $600 to $800 on-road engines in the chassis & class they were actually designed for?

First your was post was not poised as a question, really a continued sarcastic way to protest your opinion on open GT.
I'm not a pro or sponsored, but really doesn't matter. For me racing GT is fun and not as fragile as 1/10 and 1/8 but I want the the same speed without the headache of cutting tires constantly and other things that are involved with the other classes.

Thank you, finally an honest answer without any personal attacks made against me for asking why you don't want to race in the 1/8 scale on-road pan car class with a 9 port on-road pan car engine. Thanks again

Hehe ... I can see you are openly optimistic about your new car Pete.
Should be a fun year with all the new cars and experience gained from past years of running GT bearing fruit I feel.
I have put quite some effort into building my car and also hope to see her do well on the circuit.
