Hello, I currently race an Inferno GT1 with a novarossi N21Bf with the stock transmission set to shift immediately to second once I hit the throttle in order to preserve it from exploding.

At my track I have pretty consistent lap times this way (basically with 2nd engaged all the time), so I thought since I only use 1 gear why don't install a 1 speed tranny with a center differential from the Inferno 7.5.

I would like to know if there would be any advantage on this in order to reduce laptimes, cornering...?

note: Our track is pretty big and fast, 1st gear is used rarely on our cars.

I would think that the car would be faster if the tranny was set to shift properly. Especially on a large track. Just my opinion though.

My guess is that if you’re not having catastrophic issues with the IGT1 standard spur gearing and transmission with your engine you might be better off with it over a buggy diff.

Your ability to start off in first gear, no matter how short shifted it is, would be better than starting in second gear only.

What track do you race on?
Got any pictures?

At our GT only racing events, we’ve all found out that both brands are very evenly matched, with maybe a slight edge going towards the IGT statistically; possibly because of slightly less chassis weight.

Both brand designs have equal merits. For the most part, my advice is to go with the brand that has best parts support in your area.

The new Kyosho 2 speed is an absolute necessity.

The original 2 speed is unreliable because of stripped gears and damaged shifting pins inside the 2nd gear. In addition having the car be able to drop into low gear and wind-up is a big deal.

I have run the Kyosho GT car for over 3 years and I tried every possible combination from 1 speed, to metal gears, to the new 2 speed and having a 2 speed that you can wind up and be confident that it won't strip is critical to lower lap times.

Lee,

I currently use the metal second gear (from dragon) and have found it to be reliable (so far). I also have the new kyosho 2 speed but have hesitated installing because of the much lower 2nd gear vs. stock (19/43 vs. 21/40). I recently noticed on infernosonly.com that they are advertising the use of HPI 2nd gear pinions (22 and 23T) for more top end. Can these be used with the "new" kyosho 2 speed or are we stuck with the 19/43 ratio? Tx.

I think that you can run HPI gears on the pinion on the new 2 speed. I have not tried them because the track we run on is ideal for the stock ratios for the new Kyosho 2 speed. I know on the standard 2 speed I did run HPI gears on it in order to get the performance I wanted.
