The EC edition includes their new geometry, big shocks, all alum upper parts and pin holders along with the longer chassis and new arms. The XB8R is their entry model that are the old Xray Specs and parts. Both are good cars buy the EC is state the art for them.
Some of the Xray guys can point out more if I missed any but these are a few of the highlites.

Thumbs up

The Xray cars are very durable. Top of the class if you are in the top end kits. RC America is a small outfit in Dallas, TX. They are the sole distributor in the US and are very easy for your LHS to set up with.

With Xray you will get spoiled with the fit and finish. Beware. The parts cost a lot but they just simply last forever.

I'm not sure about online stores that carry them.
Where are you located?

Xray onroad parts are expensive, I found the 1/8th parts to be rather reasonable when I owned an XB8
