There is obviously a risk with these packs, the fires are not common but they are real fires. After racing nitro for all these years I just want something that I can leave in a bag in a closet w/out any worries or the scent of nitro. The last thing I want is for a pack with a bad tab( something that is not my fault by any means) to short and burn more then an r/c. I'm sure that there are times when a car like that losi is not left on a pit table. Instead it is taken indoors and put away untill another day. The lipos are great cells, but I just don't have that "safe place to keep them atm" so I am going to continue to run a123 cells.

well we are only using GEN 1 lipos for cars? if so that explains why they are prolly unstable.

here are the packs in the final all over protective 1mm casing. its protected on top and left/right side for impacts and also the bottom is covered so that the CF like gaps for holding normal sub C cells doesnt cut the pack open.

what ya think? thanks!

looks good, refine it a bit and start selling the kits. There are a ton of people that are waiting for a hard case saddle pack.

I don't see why people don't just go and run a123 cells for saddle packs. You can build a 4600mah 6.6volt pack out of 4 cells that will drop straight in longwise instead of sideways like the subcs. These cells will not catch fire if they short out either and they are already made out of a hard material. Not to mention the life expectancy is 1500 cycles, 3x more then lipos. The weight will still be less then lipos, but closer to an actual 6cell though.

This is as big as you can go for a saddle pack,
34mm X 66mm X 31mm for each side.

This is ideal,
34mm X 66mm X 25mm on each side

6.6v is what puts me off. like you said or sum1 did, it starts glitching at a certain voltage, NO ONE WANTS GLITCHING!!! also lipos r more likely to become race legal as more people use them.

really, it has to be custom or just made ONLY for the d4. there are parts that r tricky to like do n stuff. also no 2 packs r identical so they will fit differently in the cases. some may be too tight and sum may be too loose. its all about customisation and making suit to JUST YOU.

thanks for the kudos though, i just took the buggy for a night bash and i am rolling over n all this stuff and no damage! i even took my half mm cases and like tried to dent it. it dented but sure took alot to make a big dent.

simple at 60A the a123 cell offer only 5V at this level many esc shut down

and lipo 7V at 60A 35% more power

and all motor esc electronic is made for 7.2V

bold makes no sence to me.

How about you come back to the LIPO question thread when you run a a123 7.4v then you got somthing to compare, mah is no substitute for volts. 101 understanding DC
