Default Serpent 720 or HPI HARA R40

Looking to get back into RC. Thinking of buying one of these cars. I searched around a bit but just wanted to see what people had to say about each kit.

What are some of the motor and pipe setups people are using with these kits now days? Can you use HPI wheels with the Serpent 720?

Just trying to get some info before my purchase. There seem to be a few new kits of each for sale on the forum. Looking to buy SOON.

It depends on what you wanna do with the car.

If your racing, definetly go with the 720. If your bashing then HPI is your choice.

If you are going to race, consider the NT1 from x-ray. Parts cost about the same. In my opion it is a better car, not by much though.

A bit of both. They are both around the same price too correct.

Do the cars differ that much? Looks like they pretty much have the same setup, but I can't really tell from not seeing them in person.

Does anyone know if HPI wheels will work with the 720?

I think all on road sedans have the same hex sizes so any tire should fit.

I think the Serpent 720 would be a better value cause its a newer platform so everything is up to date as well as a great drivetrain. If I remember right the R40 has already been discontinued.

I have both 720 and R40. Making a long story short, the 720 is current and parts are readly available. The R40 is a five year old chassis. The HPI is a nice platform but is old. Get the 720.

The hexes and shafts on the R40 are the same as most others. Yes, HPI 1/10 scale (R40) wheels will fit on a 720. Even the new HPI dress up wheels that just came out, will fit. I use R40 wheel nuts on my Serpents. They have nylon inserts on them to hold the axel better.

No contest between the two unless you're Hara. Get the 720 '07!

Looks like I will go with the 720. Thanks for the help. Now I need to find the best place to get the kit. I have seen a good number of brand new kits in the FS section for around 375 shipped. No PMs replied to yet though.

I use to run a Novarossie .12 in my HPI that I loved. It seems they are still good engines but it looks like more people that race by me are using the O.S. Whats a good match with the 720?

Default Kit to Get!!

At the present time, if you want a nitro sedan that is fast out the box with very few changes out of the box, you should get the XRay NT1,, Kyosho V1RRR EVO, or Mugen MTX-4R. These kits can be built and raced at the top level without alot of work and upgrading on the car.
