Esc Glitch????

Esc Glitch????
Hi,
I have just installed a USED ESC which I bought from Ebay and noticed a small Glitch(??) when I first switch on the ESC.
What is happening is when I turn on the ESC power switch the steering servo glitches for a split second and the motor gets a quick surge of power which drives the motor for about one eighth of a turn. This happens every time without fail.
Is this a fault or is it common in some ESC's. My previous ESC's have not done it.
Thanks
Steevo

it shouldn't really matter because it's only that split second. my mini z taht doesn't work use to do that...transmitter on or off for way more than a split second. it also might be ur reciever. but it really doesn;t matter if it does that

What I really would like to know Is if it is something that some ESC's will do or is it something that is a result of something else and can be fixed.

Well, I'm not sure about that particular ESC, but for most any modern Novaks, that is common, it's a little bit of left-over juice from the last time it was run. Most ESC's have some kind of capacitor inside them, & in most cases, those caps store energy that's run through the car during a run, & they can't discharge it till the next time you turn the car on, so you get that little "glitch". Like I said, for your ESC I'm not 100% sure, but for ones like Novaks, it's nothing to worry about....

Thanks for the replies.
It seems that it is a relatively common occurance so therefore nothing to worry about. I just wanted to make sure that it was not a fault but if other ESC's seem to do it then it must be just something that some models do for whatever reason.

Yep, it's quite common. Some ESC's has a "on-power pulse supprsion", to avoid it. The important thing is, there shouldnt be any glitching while driving !

i had an mtronics prodigi and it did that glitching thing even when new. but it never had a problem in the 2+ years that i had it. the esc just died on me when i ran it through a puddle

there might be an interference between the radio and the esc. maybe you should try repositioning the esc as far away from the receiver as possible. and be sure to turn the remote on before the car so there will be no accidents like runaway cars.
