Default 13.5 Brushless vs. 27T brushed

Any thoughts or comments on the two motors or the future of the class?

easy way to look at this if you want to combine the two is:

27T max power = 130 -145 watts

13.5 novak early ones 165 watts
13.5 novak sintered rotoris 190 watts

13.5 is more like the 23T they run in japan.

want a fair playing field with brushless and 27t use the 15.5.

if you want an unfair playimng field use a 13.5

top speed of 13.5 to 27t is about the same, however 13.5 accelerates like a mod, 27 T is 27T

do a back to back run with your mates and the difference is clear

ps. where having this discussion here in the UK too

Yep down the straight there is little to no difference between a good 27t and 13.5, but throught the twisties the 13.5 has the torque advantage.

It's different at my local track. Down the strait the BLs dominate, but the brushed have faster acceleration through the turns. Overall the laptimes seem to be about the same.

Well last weekend at a local trophy race there was a 13.5 class and the laptimes were .5 faster than the stock times. And the level of drivers was a little better in the stock class. The 13.5's were faster everywhere.

I think that both "stock" motors should be legalized by ROAR to compete with one another in all forms of competition so brushed motors get phased out over time after the brushed drivers realize that they are putting up a fight that doesn't need fighting and switch to 13.5 motors.

I am just in the process of buying new stuff. I was thinking a 13.5 system or some new 27t motors. I don't want to buy something that will be phased out soon.

At my local track I don't see a lot of differents in the two.

The 13.5 is a bit faster but a bit harder to bring into a turn. That's what I can see as the biggest differance. No comm cutting and brushes to buy. Less work in the pits.

A rehash of the same - Brushless is here and brushed is going bye-bye. Yes you can run them in the same stock class.Brushless and lipos are here and that's the bottom line......

No comparison, the 13.5 is much faster motor than at 27T brushed. You can't race a bearing against a bushing and expect it to be equal. At least with a 10.5 vs 19T, the playing field is more equal.

I'm too lazy to work on motors so I would prefer brushless take over, but the guys who have done their homework and are willing to go through the time and expense should have somewhere to race.

Unless brushed and brushless stock are forced to compete head to head, I think there will aways be a brushed stock motor class. For every guy who hates to ever touch his motor, there's another guy who won't race unless he can work up his motor.

I'm already seeing guys who are relatively new to the hobby, people who you would assume gravitate towards brushless, say leave stock alone and keep the brushless motors out.

Last Friday at SIR, 13.5 mixed with Stock.

All three guys running stock, 1,2,3.

A question:
So, if/when brushed stock and 19t motors get phased out.....
Are we going to have handout brushless races??

Don't think there won't be variables in the motors (motor to motor) just like brushed motors. First thing that comes to mind is the windings in the can.

but I don't have any first hand experience with a BL, except our 24hr enduro winning car. And that was obviously a good experience.
