The best way is to use a flywheel puller...but, you can also take a pair of channellock pliersand firmly hold the flywheel, then take something softer than the crankshaft and hit the end of the flywheel, a good hit and it'll come right off.

I use a flywheel puller. I use one that I bought from an automotive parts store ($$$). JP and other companies make one that looks like this:

You can also get a faucet handle puller from the hardware store that works pretty good, little cheaper....

I've been using a battery terminal puller like the one shown in the picture. You can get these for ~ $5.00 USD at auto part stores.

I once saw a guy walk up to a wooden driver's stand, engine in hand. He grasp the cooling head with the end of the crankshaft pointing upward and proceeded to strike the flywheel against the driver's stand like a hammer. I thought, "OMG! What is that guy doing!!!??" After about 3 hits, the flywheel came off.
This is just a funny story. I do not recommend that you remove the flywheel this way!
