Heh, Tim, that was the last m04 on the shelf, too.


I hear they have some rear traction issues so I came up with a solution:





Hehe. It looks so ridiculous I cant stop laughing when I look at it. That was the clear wing that came with my 350z body.. It also came with one of those black plastic deals, which is on the 350z now.

Oh and regarding the hubs, I threw mine on my hudy station and it had about .5 degrees toe in per side.

That's so weird you did that, I was thinking of doing the same thing last night with the extra wing that came with my Skyline body.

Those expensive gumball tires I used last weekend worked awesome though.

Did you have any trouble with the front tires rubbing the bumper when turned all the way to each side? I think I'm going to have to break out the dremel here...

Uh, quick question for you guys. I was just looking through the extra parts that came in my kit and I see this strange looking piece that looks like it attaches to the chassis on the left side just in front of the battery tray, and forms its own little tray. Is the intent of this thing that you can stick the esc down there for a lower center of gravity? That would be great, but I don't understand why it's on that side of the car, where's there's already more weight due to the motor sticking out that side. Anyone know what I'm talking about?


Edit: Wait a minute, I think it's for mounting a servo if you are using a mechanical speed control? So I guess my question now is, would it be a terrible idea to mount the esc on the left side of the chassis?

While some people overly craving and praising on ball diff for M-Chassis..
I firmly believe properly prepared (and maintained) Stock Gear Diff is one of proven mechanical device (both good endurance and performance)..

..and.. Serpent somehow also do "reverse" Tamiya way : S400 option item is switching rear ball diff with gear diff..

IMO, removing (huge) bump steer from stock linkage is one of important point on M04 to do list..

Atcom, the gear diff is good. some love the ball diff. personally I do well with the gear diff.

2 deg rear toe in hubs and sticky rear tires are more important for me.

According to my two digital scales, my right rear is quite heavier than my left rear by about 60g, this is with/without the battery installed. Not really sure WHY this is though since I have quite a bit of stuff installed on the left side.

EDIT: Actually I just weighed it again and the right side is indeed 20g lighter than the left without battery...NOT heavier.

Do you have the Tamiya motor mount/heatsink installed on the right side? That's pretty well balanced.

Oh btw mine weighs 1208g even with all of the extra stuff you see there + 2S 3000mah Turnigy LiPo pack.

Heh, but the heatsink does nothing!

Actually I do like the looks of the one that sits on the can and has the fan on it.. My motor temps were ok during the race tonight but if the track changes to something tighter, I'll have to re evaluate.



Question about bump steer: How do you eliminate it? I heard you're supposed to make the tie rods sit as close to parallel with the bottom a-arm as possible.. is that true?

The heatsink works just like any other metal motor plate eg the motor screws have a hard flat surface to tighten onto. The plastic gearbox isn't very strong without the motor plate. As far as drawing heat away from the motor well it doesn't really do that too well but what it does well is draw heat away from the gearbox itself which does help. On my car I installed it to function primary as a motor plate since I have the cooling fan to keep the motor cool. So far I haven't even needed to connect the fan since the motor only gets warm.

Papero, no motor heat sink. is your 1208 with or without a body?

Zig, my front end has Tamiya Purple springs (very very hard), hardly any up down travel so bump steer is not noticeable.
