From the pics, this looks to be a regular MTX4, not a 4R. If I remember correctly, the 4R comes with dark blue shock springs (not the light blue), a better front one-way (with a smaller pulley), CVDs and not dogbones, aluminum hex hubs, aluminum engine mounts, slightly different steering blocks, rubber instead of urethane belts and a couple of other goodies. I have both the 4 and 4R and you can easily upgrade the 4 with about $180 (give or take). However, the rolling chassis was a good deal no matter which version it is if it is in A-1 shape.

That car is and R. It has the solid one way in front not just the regular one way and the belt tensioner is on the front side of the engine mounts. The regular 4 had the belt tensioner behind the engine and you had to take it off to take the engine out.

Default MTX4 R

Just dusted off my MTX4. It's been five years since this baby has seen action. Just wanted to know what upgrades do I need to make my 4 into the R and what are the benefits. Any feedback is appreciated.

I have heard of people shimming there diffs? Anybody know what this helps with or what it is designed to do? Where do you put the shimms? Does it just take play out of the outdrive and keep it from leaking out from underneath the outdrives?

I put 5 x 8 x 2.5mm bearings into my diff housings.
It makes the diffs super smooth and they are not leaking anymore
