If AE would put a good radio in their RTR stuff then I would say just get the RTR and then buy the threaded shocks and lunsford turnbuckles. But they dont. I would just buy the kit and go from there. That will also help you learn to work on the car.

Keep in mind. You break the lunsfords, they replace them free. You bend the associated ones, they don't, so in the long run, the lunsfords are better, an I have yet to break one on a buggy.
As for the cost comparisons, keep in mind what you are pricing and also take off what you are pricing out. so if you are saying this:
Thread shocks : $40
Don't forget you probably are going to sell the kit shocks that came with. So keep that in mind. Price isn't exactly that amount.
Also don't forgot to add in the cost of the composite chassis as that is one of the popular changes right off the bat, and the graphite ones are not in high demand because of it.
Finally, graphite may cost more so you may feel you are getting a better deal, but if it breaks easier and you have to replace it sooner than the other stuff, did you really save anything by getting parts that are inherently more fragile?

My 2 cents is get the FTb4 kit and then purchase the plastic chasis. Seems to be the best combonation. Just the transmission upgrades and ti turnbuckles as well as the front brace make it more cost effective than buying upgrades. Don't forget you also get the ubitonium shock shafts rather than the steel ones. So if you are looking to race the FT kit will be a better choice.

ok thanks for all of the input. it looks like im gonna go with the factory team, spektrum radio/servos. mamba max 7700 w/esc and lipo battery. im looking mainly to do some bashing and some racing. if theres any other fast brushless setups please let me know, all help is appreciated!

Cool then. Make sure you pick up the Plastic chassis right away.
Also, you may want to consider the 6900 or 5700 unit to start with. You actually can go faster from what I undrestand with the 5700 unit if you use more lipo cells. On a 7.4V setup of course you will go faster with the 7700. But, control may be a serious issue.
I am not sure but you may also need to pickup that spektrum capacitor as well to cut out any glitching issues with the SR3000 receiver.
