Default Z12R (#31250) Vs OS 12TZ-3P?

LRP Z12R ENGINE (31250)

VS

O.S. .12 TZ (P)-T 3-Port Turbo (11373)

OS have always been reliable and easy to tune. I have had bad experience with Picco motors in the past with leaky carbs and just not going for 5min without stalling.

The OS is $100 more, but i am after some feedback from other people

cheers

Hi Rb_Racer

I am guessing the Z12R is the LRP engine which is based on the picco. I have had a Mega Zx12 (picco) and had problems with carbs leaking and i couldn't get it to run for full race distance. I tried an STS carb on it to see if this would make any difference and it was the same result. I don't know if the Zx12 and the Z12R are identical or not though?

As for the OS i have never had anything to do with the Tz, have heard from others they are reliable, but have issues with the conrod if not replaced regular.

Hope this helps...

Also,

Have just located the LRP Z.12R Team Spec 2 Engine
[LRP31201] and have been talking to a friend about these LRP engines. We have come to the conclusion that the Spec 2 is Sirio based and the original Z12R looks more like Picco.

Maybe someone else has more in depth knowledge though

All LRP Z.12R engines are and where manufactured by Picco under LRP specs.

First one was Z.12R Team
Then came the Z.12R Team Spec 2
Now there is the Z.12R Team Spec 3

The Spec 3 is the equivalent to the Picco .12 P1R Evo2 engine, from which other engines are made too.

OFNA JLR Red Dot
IDM P1R Evo2
Mega ZX DSII+
Trinity A. Drake

And now there is a new Picco .12 P1R Evo3 recently announced

I have the JL Red Dot and a Picco Evo2 Edo Tuned (factory modified) and have no issues whatsoever. They are fast and relaible as any top engine on the market today. Internally they are completely different to previous Picco's, including the old Mega ZX 12. No carb issues, stronger conrod, etc.etc.

I also have a OS TZR heavily modified as a speed tuned, and my Picco's beat the hell out it.

Thank you for your feedback. Is the LRP Spec 2 that Bundy is talking about the same then as the original Mega ZX12? I have not seen an Spec 3 available locally, i would just like a realiable easy to tune engine?

Thanks

Can someone tell me how reliablity and tunable is the new Spec 3, is it really as powerful as claimed, I thought the Spec 2 from what I have seen was pretty fast but the top end was a little weak.

Maybe the persons using it may not have fully tuned it

Get the OS, it'll last longer. I have a Z12R race, my tune lacks bottom end punch but once the revs rise it's as quick as the TZ's at my club in a straight line. I cant comment on the team engines

I have to say i find it hard to find truth in this myth... I've run over 20 litres through my TZ on the same conrod i broke it in with and it still screams!

My dad run something like 20 litres through his on the same conrod before he rebuilt it

TheTZ is the best bang for the buck! It can hold it's own against all the motors on the market today.I had 3 already and they run great,it's my goto motor.I highley recomend it!

Are you talking about the OS .12 TZ with 3 ports or 5 ports?
And is it better quality than the LRP Z.12R Team Spec 2 Engine?

if you want easy to tune without giving you carb issues, go for OS TZ12...
but if you can get the tune right without carb issues on the LRP, then the LRP will be a faster engine.

I have a Team Magic G4S and i'm looking for another .12 engine.
i'm trying to decide to go with the LRP Z.12R Team Spec.4 or the OS.12TZ 3p.

or is there any other suggestions in that price range?

i tried lrp spec 3 and os tz 5p.

lrp spec 3

- faster than O.S. tz in term of low and high speed.
- quality both about same
- have tuning problem with their stock carb. need to use sirio/sts carb for easy tuning.
- lower cost than O.S. tz
- parts can interchangeable with nosram/picco/idm

O.S. tz

- top speed slightly slower than lrp
- quality both about same
- very easy to tune
- slightly more exp than lrp.
- can only use O.S. parts

Both the engine i tested with skyline pipe

*above are just my views for this 2 engine!

LRP spec4 will beat the hell out of os tz12 3p if you can get the tune right without carb issues (on the LRP)...
