im just about finished with a DM-1e build and looking for a body. Only problem is the bodies i like are either out of stock or no longer in production. Anyone know of good sources? And will a 1/7th Ofna body fit a DM-1e 8 scale chassis? With some modification

That's depends on which engine mounts you are using on the car now.
There are the short hard coated mounts used for starter-box set-ups.
Then there are the silver annodized tall mounts (OFN40674) used on the
RTR pull-start engines. If you find you need even more clearance between
the chassis and the pull-start unit, you could also use a set of the Ofna
(OFN30482) engine mount spacers. Of course, you already know about
using the proper diameter flywheel for the engine mount set-up you're
going to be running on the car, correct ? That comes in handy, in case
you might ever want to start the car with a starter-box. But that's up
to you to decide.

I am concerned at how heavy this 1/7 scale is compared to the other GTs
Will try to compete with this in the RC pro but not so confident right now
here is a video of how big it is compared to the 1/8 GTP

Does anyone know the difference in weights comparing GTP, GT2, DM1 and the 1/7 DM1

thanks

Trust me weight won't be an issue. I race my 1/7 Pro against 1/8 Specs, GT1's/GT2's, and I've never had a problem being competitive. The car is more then capable.

I will be using the same set up as your sig
Will see if this will be competative against the big guys of GT
Do you have any suggestions on how to make this thing lighter?
Will remove most unneeded plastics and even screws

Carbon fibre chassis/shock towers, titanium turnbuckles/screws, and ceramic bearings, I've gotten mine down to 7.6lbs

Any Hump pack NiMh will fit. Lipo will fit if it is about the same size as the hump pack (I use 2100mAh). If you want a lower weight pack a 1700mAh Lipo or LiFe pack will give you good run times. I normally race LONG 45 to 1 hour mains, thats why I use the 2,100 but if most mains in your area are run for less time a 1700 should be good.

Has anyone tried the LRP ZR.30 in a DM-1? They are being sold off at rock-bottom prices here - €60.. Used to be €200+.. Anyway, I like the idea of getting one and breaking it in in my DM-1, then later throwing a backplate on it and having it for my LST2's...

So far I feel like the gearing in my DM-1 needs more grunt anyway. The 21's I've tried haven't even pushed it up into the 50's(mph) yet..

For the 1/7 Porsche body. Part number 40728.
Check out rcdeal.com under the Ofna Warehouse section.
There are a couple listed there.

For the tranmission it is hard to say where. First off unfortunately there is not a transmission kit available for that car seperately. It came standard with it. You would have to get part number 35011 trans kit. This is the cutch type trans and is for the Ultra. 90% of these parts are used on the DM-1 but the shaft, outdrives, and bearings are different on the DM-1 cars.
Aside from the 35011 you would also need:

40120.....BRAKE CAP JOINT,8MM DM-1
40112.....2-SPEED SHAFT, DM-1 OR 9.5
36053.....BEARING, 8x16mm, PAIR

Hope this helps.
