Default ruberized surface

has anybody ever run on a surface made of that recycled rubber tire stuff that seems to be appearing in public parks here in the US? they often use it to make running surfaces... thanks..

I haven't, but I bet traction would be pretty sick! We have something like that at the gym I go to. Holding the joints together might be tricky. I suppose you could glue the back like carpet.

i ask because we have been in talks with the county as they are preparing to turn our old landfil into a major new park. it is looking promissing that we may get a new permanent track, but for some reason they want to pave with that stuff, and not asphalt... i can't imagine it is cheaper though...

probably not the cheapest method, and almost certainly not cheaper than asphalt, but politically it will look good to turn a landfill into a public park using recycled materials.

it will be interesting to see the result and it certainly won't be anytime soon (they gave us a 2 year timetable) hopefully when they compare the prices, we can get asphalt just so we can have consistency with other tracks. i keep saying we, and this is actually for the clab i used to be a part of before i moved, but i still visit and get to run..

I am not sure what you are talking about with your surface... but we run on an old Roller Hockey rink, that has a rubberized surface called Playtime. It is an awesome surface...

I believe this is also the same that is used on a lot of high end tennis courts. I have used that surface to practice on. When clean traction is great. Only downfall is cleaning the surface of algea with a presure washer, maybe once a year! I used to do that quite a bit to get ready for big events, but now I race at a permanent track where its indoor asphalt.

i believe the stuff they are refering to looks a lot like aspalt, but is ground up bits of old tires instead of rock... it is quite spongy to walk on which is why the use it for running tracks... i wish it were like your track at MDI Tim. i have friends that run the state series down there and love it...

It is most often found on outdoor running tracks.

It should be lower impact for the corner marshalls also.
