Well if i'd spend it on r/c stuff then it would be easy. I get myself a 1/8th buggy for offroad. For on-road i'd get a ntc3. No matter what i'd read and read till i am confident in what i will fork over the money for.

Onroad get a NTC3 kit and an OS 12CV-R or 12TR, or even a 12CV engine, starter box, JR XR-2 or XR-3i... then learn how to drive, the ntc3 is by far the easiest car to drive and setup and parts are readily available and cheap, Unlike serpent and mugen. If you have never raced don't bother with a high horsepower engine. It won't help you at all. Learn how to drive the car and you will take everyone on the infield.

If you are looking at offroad for $500 don't bother with 1/8 scale. Get an RC10GT Team kit or a XXX-NT and a 12cv and learn to drive it... Horsepower means NOTHING offroad. It's all about consistancy and driving the line.

Heh, Some people. 1/8th buggys are faster, more durable and 4WD. Ofna has a good RTR buggy that even comes with a start box. It's all about consistancy and driving the line my behind....for some serious off roading, a ST would get tossed and turned.

What about $100 for a steering servo? $100 in backup parts? $60/set for tires...I race 1/8 and i know it's expensive even when running a less expensive buggy like a storm or ofna. I have about $500 in radio equipment sitting on my buggy right now... 8 sets of tires, at least $100 in spare parts. 1/10 is much less expensive. They may not be as durable, but they teach you how to drive and not wreck so much. You can get a XXX-NT sport RTR for like $350 with fuel and everything you need. Then, go out and race the same day. The radio has plenty of features, makes more than enough power, and the truck is top of the line with a good stock setup. Plus you don't go through tires like 1/8 scales do. $20 for rears is all you need. They don't tear up front tires all that much.
