I have a corally rdx now , i have never had an xray in my hands, but what is the ''tightest'' front end. Looking for the least amount of slop in all directions, camber caster, toe out.

I am building a project car and am focusing on rear suspension, Want to be able to bolt on a proven front clip and retain off the shelf support for the front end at least.

I shimmed my RDX and used different ball-cups to tighten-up the speed-slop that the RDX has. IMO Tamiya is the worst with the XRAY being the best based on my experiences - however, the RDX is the best overall once you spend a little time building it properly.

The RPM 4/40 ball cups work really well on the RDX.

When I switched from HPI Pro4 to XRay T2 I noticed a big differance.

Even over time the Pro4 had more and more slop. I constantly tried to reduce slop on it. All joints would loosen up over time. I think the plate that controls ackerman was the worst. The car has a lot of links connecting the steering overall.

With the T2 slop has been at a minimal. Only the servo horn and the steering knuckles tend to come loose from time to time. Less links, especially at servo saver.

I've tightened up front suspensions on nitro and electric cars and have noticed a decrease in performance. IMO a little bit of slop makes for a free'er suspension. I'm not saying that 2deg of camber, caster, toe-in/out play in either direction is good, just that it does not work as well if its tight.

BTW - RPM ball cups do not loosen up as fast as most stock cups...it's a cheap upgrade that seems to last a bit longer.

Thanks for the info, If i remember right the xray t1 evo 2 was pivot ball..... is that correct and if so why didnt it take off? i would like to get my hands on one of those dudes......

Problem solved,


In digging through the oring selection at work tongiht i found that a 006 oring takes up the slop but doesnt cause any bind

the pivot ball system was durable but you lost good steering... c-hub much better.. Plus the new bulkheads wouldn't allow installation of the pivot ball..I had an evo 2 foc and i was a great car..
