Hey guys i need help with shimming my clutch. I used the blue aluminum version for the longest time but switched to the Black steel version recently and i can't get the outer clutch bearing to last more than 20 min. Im using the quick change motor mount so my mesh/alignment hasn't changed and it is good.
current setup is:
motor - washer - collet - steel flywheel - flywheel nut - shim - bearing - clutch bell - bearing - cupped washer and screw.
it has about .5mm end play so it seems to be shimmed correctly.
This is with a GRP Ninja engine so if anyone can help it would be appreciated.

beaing failure
You may want to try a new clutch bell if you have had multiple bearing failures. If the bearing doesnt fit nice and snug in the bell it wont last long. And Im sure your using good quality bearings like the Avid revolutions right? If not id get some. And tighten up that end play. I run almost close to none and since I started running a real loose gear mesh and Avids I have yet to have a failure.
i hav followed the manual with 1 shim behind the bigger bearing and 2 shims at the tightening screw. yet this still fail.
should i add more shim till there are just 1 to 2mm play for the clutchbell to prevent bearing failure?\\

also try using electric motor shims , they work really well for me and you can get closer to .5mm play mark this way.

bearinggsss
right now i think i put 2shim behind bigger bearing and 2 shims at the tightening screw. i am not too sure how much is the end play now, i guess its
.3 to .4mm. i will try it out again.
this time i added some sticky grease to the bearing.
on the other hand, does you guys change the losa 4430, this is the aluminium type of insert for the rear gear box.
i feel that the plastic version hav play or movement. i thought of changing to it so no more play and perhaps the flanged bearing will hav longer life span.

i see. i plan to get the aluminium inserts and the new gear box and try it out. my only concern is that the plastic rear gear box mayb worn out by the aluminium.
another issue is that i do realise losi plastic is bit soft and it does wear off faster than other brand of plastic, but the handling is great. i just wondering can the mbx6 beat losi or perhaps on par with it only.
