SOLDERING Iron, solder?
#4
Hi guys. Greetings from Malta.
I think I would go for a car that wins. So I would look to the race scene last weekend for example and see what was winning.
There were two big race meetings of any consequence last weekend, one in Europe (Denmark - the DHI Cup) and one in the USA (The Novak TC race). All the big guys from Europe were at the DHI cup with all makes of car, and an Associated TC3 won, with more TC3s in the top ten than any other brand.
In the USA, again a TC3 won with more TC3s in the top ten than any other brand.
I don't drive a TC3 myself but I have to admit it is currently the most successful car, despite it's age, and it seems to win everywhere, and at all levels.
As for the rest of the equipment, we use Novak speedos, KO radios and servos, and Corally motors and cells so I would be biased if I said they were best. We are perfectly happy with them, and with my son currently leading the National championship in mod, and myself currently leading in stock, who can blame us!
Just my view.
Regards
Joe from sunny Malta.

For work that requires a smaller iron I have a Hakko 508 with a 3mm chisel tip.
Recently 'Big Jim' posted info in this iron in his forum and ran them out of stock, this thing looks good, with a smaller tip for more intricate work and nominally 30W, but push the button and it cranks up to 130W .
http://www.bomir.com/online/goot/tq_series.htm
And it's only $25 for the iron and $5 for a chisel tip, which is not bad at all for what it is.
For solder I mostly use 96 Tin / 4 silver solder. If I need lower temp solder I use either standard eutectic tin lead or 62Sn/36Pb/2Ag if I have it around.

I'm both an electric and Nitro guy so let's see...
Car: I'll keep my TC3 / I like my Impulse, but I'd LOVE a 705, although the new MTX-3 is getting a lot of buzz here in S. Fla.
Motor: The new Trinity flatliners look pretty interesting / Any of the Novarossi based .12's
ESC: Always Novak!
Batt: What's the battery of the month again?
Radio Gear: Futaba! I've got a 3PJS, and I STILL want a 3PK! As for servos, it's 9450's for me, although the Hitec servoes are pretty good.
C/D: I'll keep my updated Victor Super-IQ...
ETC. - Every HUDY tool imaginable! (Setup, truers, lathes)
